Pod instrumental panel question
 

Hi Guys

Finally, me and my dad just removed the dash for restoration :)
one of the things we want to do while the dash is removed is to fix the Mileage counters that stopped working.
We havent opend the instrumental panel to check if the plastic gear is broken but we have noticed that some pins in the printed plate are not in place (see attached pictures)

We dont know what the influence can be but it looks that since they been bent - they didnt do anything...maybe it can be related to the mileage counters, since when I pressed on the mileage counter "reset" button (before dash removal) I saw some movement on the bottom mileage counter...
Do you have any idea what those bended pins do?

You can take an ohm meter and follow those connections, actually you can almost see where the go. Looks like some damaged contacts for sure.

You can try and repair the bends with some glue, but I got lot's of intermittent issues with that. I ended up buying a new PCB (Printed Circuit Board) for about $100, which resolved the issues.

as Leo suggests try and bend the bent tabs back maybe use a little super glue to hold down, be careful clamping anything to the board where the tabs are, it could be brittle. Also, make sure to clean the female plug.

Most likely the odo gear is bad/denigrated. This will cause no miles to accumulate on the counter and a non-functioning trip counter. The trip counter uses a solenoid when pushing the button to actuate the gear mechanism to reset, they go bad and/or the odo gear being bad will also not allow a reset. DO NOT push the reset while the car is moving this can break the odo gear.

You can get the gear for cheap $25. There is a write-up on the replacement procedure on the net that I used, just can't find it right now, not hard just careful details.

adding you can clean the plastic film me4tal strips with a white eraser, clean the copper strips w/ a red eraser.

If you look at your second picture, at the top of the tab as the connector bends over you can begin to see a letter for each connection. Follow it around the tab, iirc each tab has it's designation spelled out in German.
