Are you referring to the speakers mounted in the panel just behind the front seats and a little low? If so - trouble in my book. When I took my car apart, I found out that the speaker is actually recessed in the structure of the car - and only the speaker grill is visible through the side molding.

I cant really give you a simple solution on how to get to the speaker - but if its any help, I can send you pictures of the parts when taken apart.

If I can remember correctly, my Euro 81 rear speakers are mounted in the Rear Quarter Panel. If so, you'll need to remove the whole panel unless you can remove some of the screws holding that part of the panel and lift it up to get to the speakers. I believe the speakers are located near the rear seat lower area. I drove my car to work today, so I can take a look later in the morning for you and report back.

I don't think the rear quarter panel will flex enough to allow access to the mounting screws for the speaker. Although removing the quarter panel is work - I would rather do that, then have to replace it due to breakage.

On my '79 the speakers are behind the q-panel (it just has holes for sound no grill). I have not removed them or gotten in their yet but it is in my future as I have a dud for music and no original fader or radio.

There is a write up on taking the panels out somewhere, I did not bookmark it. IIRC, you have to remove the q-panel retaining screws (2-4 screws, I think) then push the panel forward towards the engine but not lifting. Pushing it forward will allow it to be lifted forward and out...then access. The rear seat may have to be out of the way??

Yes, I believe it's a whole lot easier to mess with that 1/4 Panel if you remove the rear seat back.
