Hot air coming from under steering wheel?

So i took a nice cruis this evening. No A/C so had the windows down.
I noticed a lot of heat coming from under the steering wheel. Normal?

My car also gives off lots of heat from the center console and the gear shifter on my automatic. I plan to fix my A/C soon. Will the car still give off too much heat?? Or will the a/c make it bearable?

Could you have a faulty HVAC control unit that is not closing the heater valve?

go to 928 SPECIALISTS ONLINE STORE - 30,000+ 928 Parts - 928 SUPERCHARGER KITS! and on page 2 under tips and links find Wallys guide to checking the HVAC system this will guide you to how to inspect and repair the leaking pods.
Once the vacuum leaks are fixed the hot air should stop unless you have selected it on

Our cars are plagued with vacuum issues. Seems as though everthing back in the day was deisigned to be controlled by it. Just one of the many gremlins you'll be chasing. Lot's of old vac lines and tore diaphrams. Although most everyone has these issues so shouldn't be too hard to locate your specific issue.

Another question related to the HVAC system...on a fully functional heating/cooling system of the 928, is the owner able to open and/or close the air vent with moving a switch or press of a button like current cars? Because I'm forced to smell the outside atmosphere of wherever I'm driving. Which button is vent closed? Vent open?

when i turn my control on (heat or a/c), i get a plume of white smoke from under the glove box and that sweet aroma of burning wire. i had to pull the fuse. a project for a later date. anyone got an idea what would cause this? from what i can see, wires look fine.

There is a seal on the transmission hump, when your motor mounts collapse (as they all do) the seal is not held tight and this allows hot air from the engine/exhaust to flow up into the car. Its worse if you open the sunroof because of the draft it creates. One solution is replacing the mounts, or using a JagerMount setup (thick slab of rubber between the engine oil pan and the crossmember.
