'89 GT with GTS Body ?
Hi
I have recently purchased a 1989 LHD GT manual, unusually the car has a GTS body, ie larger wheel arches front and rear and the reflector strip between the rear lights (doesn't have GTS on it). Has anyone come across a similar car before as I believe the GTS didn't come out until 1991? A letter from a previous owner claims the car was owned originally by the racing driver Gerhard Berger ? |

Post the car's identification number or VIN and somebody here can search its original option list using PET 7.

PET7 corrects vin to WP0ZZZ92ZLS841083 its an 89 GT ROW model, maybe from Japan, which has a funky fender requirement.
Pictures would help. I'm too lazy to retype the option list, no cut and paste from that part of PET7, but only "special" item I noticed was draped leather on the seats. |

I will post pics later in the week. The car was first registered in Germany and wears a 'LOTEC' badge which i think is a German tuning company, so maybe they altered the body ?

PET7 doesn't show country code, however the server it talks to does return it in the data for a lookup. Also VIN letter L is 1990 model year, which is why it doesn't have the option code for GT (all manuals in 90-91 were GT's). Option codes on it are: 139 Seat Heating - Left 340 Seat heating - Right 418 Protective side mouldings 474 Sport shock absorbers (Bilsteins) 567 Windshield green graduated tint 650 Sunroof 980 Seat cover - Raff - leather

I think LOTEC were a supplier of performance upgrades and also produced the LOTEC 928 (google search) and performance cars in their own right. Not sure what happened with my 1989 car having the GTS bodywork though?

I knew of a GT in Germany that had the GTS fender flares from the factory. Dumb bastard wrecked it though so it can't be yours.

There were Exclusive options for flared front and rear arches to be wider than stock - would be great to see if you car had them. One of the rear-arch options was round rear wheel arches - rather than the squared stock arch. This RL thread is about the rear arch extension - option code XC1, but also appears on some cars without the option code. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/928-forum/86372-orig-porsche-verbreiterung-193cm.html Are those the same as your car?

Hi
i will post pics over the weekend but i think the body is GTS. The wings (front and rear) appear to be just like the GTS and appear original. The mirors are the normal flags not cups, the rear is GTS with the reflector between the lights. Surely the cost of having a bodyshell change would prevent anyone having changed it? |
