Plating? DanglerB? Anyone?
 

Has anyone gotten some car parts plated? I know I saw one of Mikes posts, but didn't catch where he got it done.

Also, not Chrome Plating, but Nickel maybe.

These guy's in San Jose have been doing it for years: Superior Chrome Plating, Finest Work in chrome plating, nickel plating and polishing in San Jose, Northern California

Do you have a questions about plating or where? I do business with a couple platers.. so I am fairly familar with the process I'm in NH so as the where I can't be any help btw they always owe me favors and usaully every nut and bolt I remove gets replated nickel and before I put it back in

If you want your nuts and brackets to look factory-new, get them gold chromatizised ;)

Riber, The platers here would call that yellow zinc . I use nickel becuase it's more corrosion resisant.. but you do lose the stock look

I did email one of the local platers here in San Diego and they said Zinc plating is the way to go over Nickel for cost reasons. This is great input guys.

Aah, I was in doubt what to call it, because here it's known as "guldkromatisering" = Gold Chromatizing.

Just remember, platers don't really want to plate your old stuff. They are used to raw stock. They don't like contaminating their tanks with debris, oils, grease ect. Some of the pieces may have "questionable" (meaning old and EPA outlawed coatings) that they don't even want in their etch tanks. I'm assuming CA has VERY strict laws governing plating process's so they are probably really being watched. I say that because the cleaner and more appealing you make the hardware look, the more likely they are to do it and not give you a higher price. Don't give them a pile of dirty rusted pieces. The parts all end up in the final few tanks but they may start off in several different places depending on what type of stripping and hanging they require, so you may even want to offer to sort and "wire" up your pieces to help them out too. Make it as easy for them as possible. Your little job (my plater wouldn't do my stuff either if I didn't control giving them thousands of dollars of business) means nothing to them and if it even looks like a slight hassle they may just refuse to do it. Just keep that in mind when talking to them.

Orange County Plating, Chrome Plating, Powdercoating results can vary a LOT between batches.

What was a good average on pricing? I know I did see that you had a post somewhere, but can't remember where.

BTW pretty sure its a batch price, around 20 lbs I think?

Out here a lot charge would be about $100. Once you get over too many pieces it would go per piece...which could be quite a bit.. depending on the shop.
