Newb Looking for Advice
I'm new to here, never had a European car but have been in the hobby a while (mostly muscle cars) and have always loved 928s. I'm looking to get into one and saw a few deals out there, latest one I was considering is an '81 with manual trans. Any advice anyone can give me in terms of purchasing (things to look out for particular to 928s) and as far as owning/maintaining, or perhaps a link to another post or some other form of reference material?
My goal is to get one fairly reasonably priced, get it in good running shape, update the wheels and brakes from a late model Porsche as I've seen on here by a few people, and then maybe one day get a little crazy with the motor combo. Mostly I just want a driver though, something I can enjoy and drive to work a few days a week. Thanks! |

No maintenance records, then your going to be replacing a lot of things just off the bat. Mine are both early cars, but I hear on the later ones theres a lot of talk about the Thrust Bearing. Plus the later cars are Interference Engines, which is one of the main reasons for holding back. |
Gotcha. Well I'm waiting for either my next paycheck or one of my cars to sell before I go look at it and hopefully pick it up...so I'll get back to you. But so far I know it has a new fuel pump and clutch which were just replaced. The interior needs some help, but I am told it runs/drives fine.

There's no such thing as a "deal" with a 928, it will cost you one way or another :) On a new car with no history, I would do the timing belt (and related parts), replace all the fluids and run it, have some fun and see how it goes. Find a set of factory manuals, they will pay for themselves quickly. good luck

Gotcha...so you get what you pay for. More money up front means better maintained and less money on repairs (hopefully)?

You will certainly want to know what you are getting into...great advice on what you will, and it is the car.
And if you want to really explore or want to get into the weeds with what an inspection could entail at the deepest, review the PPI... PPI |
