86 alarm bypass
Having intermittent problems with my factory alarm. How can I bypass the alarm on a 1986?
Thanks |
There is a flat 8 pin black connector behind the CE panel.
I think its the only flat one with 8 positions --- you may have to lean the panel forward to find it. Unplug. Take the female half. Link the wires at terminals 4 (black/red) and 1 (yellow). Wrap some electrical tape around each of the now-separate halves. Tuck them behind the panel. Intermittency often comes from corrosion in the 2 door contact pins, the hatch contact pin buried below the lower hatch receiver, as well as corrosion within tiny contact switches installed at the base of each of the 3 alarm lock cylinders. |
Thank you.
I have had an issue twice with the alarm not resetting while parked on an incline. Cranks with no start. If I move the car (push) several feet it will start right up. Is there also a sensor in the system that detects the degree of angle to prevent towing? Thank you again |
Interesting.
There might be a mercury switch in the hood, embeded in the light holder. Not sure. Hood light should trigger with parking lights on, and hood open. There is a push switch also, not sure its function, might be the electric fan safety switch. Good question. Wally Plumley would know. |
