What is this wire?
Hi Guys
I was trying to figure out why rain water gets into the car to the electric panel are (under the glove compartment) so I was examining the fan blower and then I saw this wire: ![]() ![]() When I unplugged the plastic connector I saw that those 2 wires are not connected... 1) Do you have any idea what this wire should do? 2) Do you have any idea why and how the water gets to the electrical panel area under the glove compartment??? maybe the drain is plugged? if so, where is it? Thanks!

May be an add-on for an old stereo system.

not sure about that wire but it may be for the AC temp switch?
It could also be a power feed for the hood lamp get volt meter and turn on the lights see if you get 12V at the wire if so then its a feed for the lamp, the hood is the ground For water to get into the CE panel the blower box seal usually fails this requires removal of the blower box from under the dash then you can drop the blower motor down the same hole. Use 3M strip caulk to reseal the box once you get the BB and B motor out you will see the well drain . Clean this out. NOTE you might consider testing the inside/outside air flap pod and have one on hand prior to dropping the BB as it might have failed and the pod can only be replaced withe BB out of the car NOTE drop the Ce panel down the cover it with a towel prior to dropping the blower box as lots of stuff may fall out and contaminate the CE panel

Are you missing the plastic cover for the blower area? The plastic cover routes any water to the proper drain area. Without it water will leak behind the CE panel. Part number for a 1980 is 928 574 553 04 "cowl panel covering".

There is also a rubber flap located on the passenger side of the firewall that sometimes gets debris (leaves, sticks, etc) that holds it open. You can see it from underneath the car, and you can clean it out with your hands. It is tough to see from above the car. Check that for your leak also.

Put your hand under the insulation that lines floor under the panel.
If its wet, its time to remove the panel and cut that section out. Mine was wet because the primary wiring harness plug was not fully mounted into the firewall.

Guys, thanks a lot (sorry for late reply)
I guess I will make this electric test and then I will try to take the blower and the inside/outside pod - that is stuck on open all the time. I do have the plastic cover for the blower area...it doesnt seems to help. Thanks for the ideas!
