Window Switch

One of my switches was stuck. It would "click" on close but was stuck on open. As it turned out the "rocker" some how came off the tabs or was pushed down and stuck. There are two little plastic tabs on each side of these switches on which it pivots. Once I put the rocker back in the tab slots it worked. Possibly the center of the rocker was pushed and dislodged it. Anyway, before you go and replace the switch (which I just did), check to see if it's just the rocker. These switches are not the best quality!

Aftermarket Switch Assy -

Hey harborman, Good job on the window switch repair. Other switch related problems can often be solved by disassembling and cleaning their internal electrical contacts. Just don’t misplace any of the many little pieces while the switch is apart. Although the original OEM parts were a high quality unit, I think most of the aftermarket assemblies are simply meant to be replaced ever so often rather than repaired.

Just my opinion - but many of the intermittent switch related window issues that I’ve seen have involved ebay parts. It is not that they do not work when new, it just seems that they tend to fail a bit early.

Good Luck, Michael

Yes, thanks on your comment. From my years in electrical work, these switches are not what I would call "military spec". The good rocker switches have a pin which goes through that pivot center. Considering there position on the center console they are exposed to getting liquids in there, not good. Some have mentioned heat will destroy them too. I bought mine from Roger. Quality seems the same as original, we will see.

Anyway, I am enjoying driving my car this summer, windows all working!
