Fuel Strainer

I have had a fuel leak off the bottom of my '82's fuel tank for a week or so and I went to look at it today and it is leaking out around what best i could tell from PET the fuel strainer (has a Purolator part number PM4211).

How hard is that piece to change or put a new gasket on?

As I recall the metal to plastic tank is mechanical fit, and once it starts to leak its toast. If the leak is from the metal to metal of the strainer maybe an easy fix, but my guess is that its not.

Well I am going to look to see if I can find the gasket because I tightened up the strainer a little and the leak slowed down. If I was not in the middle of a clutch job on my S2 I would just pull the tank but the 928 is my daily driver right now .

A follow up the gasket to the strainer is all that is bad on mine. The gasket has pretty much just turned to dust.

Are you talking about the rubber o-ring? Here are pics of my in-tank pump removal showing the o-ring.

Yea that o-ring thing around the strainer has been leaking some but it was mostly just a small bit. This last week though I filled up on Wednesday and by Friday I was out of gas. Had a huge puddle under the car when I left work Friday morning.

Porsche calls it a sealing ring and I think that is a apt name for it given it is not really a gasket and not really an o-ring

I am glad it is just easy to fix I will have the new ring here tomorrow and the car will be back on the road in time for work.

My buddy just had his timing belt break on his 944S so it could always be worse.

Yup, the only pain is draining out all the fuel. Then it's all home free from there.

I had the strainer out today and no fuel was left in the tank I was prepped to have to drain the tank but took the hose off and nothing came out then unscrewed the strainer and still nothing came out.

22 US Gallons gone in less then three days.
