First time 928S4 owner
 

Hey, I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Erik and I just bought my first 928s4. I found this car local in my area and go a great deal on it. My first project was replacing the blower motor. It was making a bad rattlings sound and there was no air flowing out of the vents. turns out the motor was bad and there was a some mice taking up residence in my vents. Needless to say they where evicted. Now heat and ac are working just fine. Next step will be to address a coolant leak. I still haven't tracked it down, but I have plans on doing a water pump, timing belt replace so I'm sure I will figure it out while I'm in there. heres some pics of my 928http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1318816342.jpg

Welcome to the Board! Looks like you scored on a well taken cared of 928. Engine and Interior Pics please. What did it cost ya?

Get a good inspection done by someone expert in the 928. Plenty of things you don't want to let slide or miss.

I checked it out in March/April this year, probably one of the first cars I looked at. He kept it in a barn along with a 944. I thought it was a nice car, appeared to be taken care of although as both you and I have found out, these cars (or is it just cars in barns?) are rodent magnets. Look for them nesting in and around the CE. I know he was asking 10k at the time, I expect that price dropped a bit... I think he said he had installed a kickdown switch for the transmission.

Thanks, Whats the CE? and there is a kickdown switch installed one the drivers door. Is there any benifit from having that?

CE is the Central Electrical Panel located at the feet of the Passenger. You'll remove a couple bolts and lift a wooden cover. Houses all your Relays and Fuses.

Kickdown Bypass is basically the activating the switch that is located under the Accel Pedal manually. It will keep your car in a lower gear longer. Obviously for auto Trannys only. I installed one in my "S" which helped me smoke an Audo 2.0 Turbo a few months back.

ok, Yeah it looks good down there. I had that all opened up when I installed the new blower motor. And as for that kickdown switch...sounds like it might come in handy sometime.

Check the flex plate for forward movement ASAP. Do a search on "thrust bearing failure". Don't panic....just something to keep an eye on. This, timing belt service and new fuel lines will take care of the "major" issues that could cost you a ton.

Thanks for the great advice guys. I'm getting ready to put it up on stands so I can check the flex plate and go over the fuel system. I'll be using all the great info this forum provides.

BTW, your car looks GORGEOUS!

FYI...in the future if you need to remove the hood, leave the hinges on the hood and unbolt from the fender so there is no hood adjustment need in replacement.

Thanks Dean. So I did checked my flex plate / and crank endplay. I have to say that I relieved to see that my endplay checks out.
I didnt take a measurement of how much tension my flex plate was preloaded with ,but when I released the clamp bolt, it moved about a 1/8 of a inch. I just bought a PKlamp and will install it after I locate the proper allen cap bolt for the flex plate clamp. Do you think it would be alright to put this hex head bolt back in the clamp. (see pic.)
