Porsche Crest Couple 'o' snags!

Well, Ive finally done it! Gone and bought myself a 928! I've got a couple of niggly snags though. Firstly the sunroof doesnt operate. The motor turns and the encounters some resistance and stops. According to the handbook it can be operated manually by undoing the screw. Blowed if I can get it undone! Any tips suggestions for stripping the system out to overhaul it? Secondly the electric mirrors fail to operate. I think its the motors, so how do you get the glass off and service the mechanism?

Hi there. The mirrors are very similar to the one in the 944/911 in their operation. The glass is snapped on, and should simply snap off with some effort. Be careful that you don't break the glass. If both aren't working, then it's probably the switch that is the culprit. These have a tendency to fail all the time.

As for the sunroof, again, it's similar to the other porsches. The fact that you can't manually open it means that there is something jammed in there. Best suggestion is to remove the roof liner, and you should be able to see the mounting points that attach the roof mechanism. There are a bunch of things that can go wrong, but once you look in there, it's usually obvious which one it is...

Wayne is right about the mirrors, usually if neither of them work it's the adjustment switch, if only one works then check the change over switch. If the car has recently had any stereo and alarm work, check the wiring on the change over switch.
If it's a real late car with mirror memory..check the mirror computer (on the lh kick panel for RHD cars).

The sunroof probably has a broken cable, always replace both and the guide. Be very careful when adjusting the roof as it can easily be adjusted to smoothly grind the paint off when opening!!

Yeah, my mirrors do not work. I wonder if it is the switch? If I push the adjustment button, it makes this sound in both mirrors, but they both act like they are stuck. I wonder if it is wired up wrong at the switch, or a short in the switch. Does anyone know which color wires go where on the switch of an 85?

If they both make a noise the chances are it is the adjustment switch, or the change over switch is wired up incorrectly.

Try a test switch and verify the change over switch is wired correctly.

I looked at it, and someone has screwed with the wires. I bet they mixed the ground up with something else.
