Extended tank range by 100 miles.

Before I got my ox sensor connected properly, I was getting 160 miles per tank, equaling approx 9 mpg.

With ox sensor working properly, tank range is now at 260 miles, approx 15 mpg.

The connector was not healthy, and causing intermittent connectivity, cycling between open and closed loop.

What size is your tank. It should be 25.11 gallons including the reserve.
So 160 mi range is only 6.37 mpg. 260 miles is only 10.35mpg. My MY80 with the o2 sensor unplugged gets 15 to 18 driven hard and fast which is nearly 400 mi range. Maybe I should reconnect mine.

Same for us on our red VA Beach car, 84 Ljet.

Drank gas like a mofo til we changed the sensor.

Now getting 19 to 20 mpg on highway

riber.bentsen 01-29-2012 01:04 AM

Same as Landseer, 20 mpg all day..

In city driving conditions I don't even bother, just runs straight through :)

The Porsche to beat was one of the 914 models, I forget which, but it would do 625 miles on a tank of gas.

The car to beat was one of the audiophile guys I used to know, lived in San Diego and used to drive a diesel Rabbit. He put in I think it was three extra tanks to hold as much fuel as possible and would drive down to TJ and buy diesel for 5 cents a gallon filling up every 2,000 miles.

5 cents a gallon? I'm not even going to ask you what year that was ;)

I think mine is smaller, I've never been able to put in more than 19 gals, and that was after I ran out of gas, which was 160 miles of driving. Now I can go up to 260 miles per tank.

That's wild. Did he keep the extra tanks in the car while driving it, or keep the extra tanks at home and replenished when needed? Iwonder if all that extra weight may have reduced his mpg?

He had the tanks built into locations on the Rabbit, but he was a crazy engineer type guy. For his turntable he cut a hole in his floor and sunk a concrete pillar into the ground with a floating optical grade slab on top. Worked pretty well.

All 928's hold the same amount of fuel - 86 liters (19 imp gal., or 22.7 US gal.), including reserve.

HB look at your tank see if it might be collapsed

924CarreraGTP 01-30-2012 07:48 PM

My 1983 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel gets 32 mpg at 80mph. We drove it to Florida on one tank of fuel and some change.
