Stock is the single pipe system below.
The dual system was built for an 84 using an Eastern Cat for 85, and a few magnaflow units. Quiet. Note the same side offset on the mid magnaflows. See the arrows --- system was built for 5 spd, but when fitted to 84 automatic trans car the passenger side magnaflow was too close to the trans fill reservoir. Its on a manual 84 car now. And someday I'll have the tips reworked / do surgery on that final muffler to bring them together. There are lots of options for self-built systems. Not shown, but desireable, would be Y-down pipes, to single high flow cat, to single rear muffler, single tip.--- something similar to the next post. ![]()

Here's a loud exhaust built for an 84 Euro.
Headers, bullet mufflers (don't do much muffling), Flowmaster short Y adapter, Spintec (little muffling going on there, either). Big dia. 3 or 3 1/4. (Instead, you could forget the special headers, and buy a Y pipe to mate to existing 84 cast iron manifolds, then cat...etc.) ![]()

Many guys have ditched their original exhausts. Surplus!
With little work, its possible to adapt a later 32V exhaust directly to the 84 manifolds. Then, after the dual discharge cats, Y-adapt it back to a single 3" pipe for the run out the back. Best done with a rear muffler of some sort. I've got two such systems on 84 cars. Nice thing is they look like emissions compliant original systems up through the cats, if that matters.

Unless you got a tiny head, that is a Bear Dog.

Since we've answered the 84 exhaust question, about the bear dog.
A lot of hair. And slobber. Like the 928s, the newfie was a rescue. The suburban is the tool of choice in rescue work. Here's before and after. Check out the delta in dignity : ![]()
