928 custom exhaust systems poll
Since my turbocharger kits, I now have a few connections for getting exhaust systems made, tweeked on my cars.
It's time to ask that question again: Are you in the market for a nice exhaust system? If so, would one of my below suggestions meet your needs: -78-84 system, single 2.5" with intermediate muffer, final muffler with twin 3" Polished SS tips. '80-86 system, single 3" with intermediate muffer, final muffler with twin 3" Polished SS tips. '87-95 system, single 3" with intermediate muffer, final muffler with twin 3" Polished SS tips. All systems would be available with or without cats, stainless steel using mandrel bends and stainless welding rods & exhaust hangers. (no rust) All would be tested for drone & noise. Single systems are more simple & are also lightweight, giving up little power to dual systems that are 2x as heavy and complex. Thanks,

Eventually both my US 83 and Euro 85 will be getting completely new exhaust systems including manifolds etc., but I am going for performance and plan to use or follow closely the design Greg Brown worked out. Its a tuned system with an H in front and a X in the rear, and it makes SERIOUS torque. Pretty sure its engineered via pipemax software, but with tuning and dyno runs to perfect it.
I like cats up front, and a single magnaflow in the rear with no opinion on number of tips, one big one suits me fine. I'm also thinking thermal coating as much as possible, but I do like the ability of the SS to use slip fittings instead of flanges. |

Define "serious torque" the only '85 Euro I've seen dyno made about 260rwhp/250rwtq with an untuned 3" exhaust

What about 86 Euros with the dual system? (Similar to S4, but with pumpkin at the rear of course).
Mine is very worn all the way from the manifolds to my RMB. A new factory system is, at best, around $4000, so I might look into yours if shipping isn't insane..

The 2v euros appear to love the single exhaust: sounds incredible too. Wasn't planning on dual systems as per the above. Plus I can make them a lot less expensively. I'm thinking under $1k.

I would have been last month. I could not find a bolt on kit for my car so I went with a custom set up from a local shop. If there was an option for a kit I might have gone for it.

Putting it another way, I am pretty cheap and it is likely to drag a grand or more out of my wallet to get one. Most exhaust updates free up the breathing and the top end torque drops off much slower, this one does that, but it also really kicks up the low end torque, and that brings up the whole power band. Pipemax gives very accurate HP and torque estimates (you essentially calibrate with track or dyno numbers) so my guess is that Greg knows what the gains are, but won't reveal the specifics. |
