Common Transmission leak

I changed the fluid and filter on my transmission a couple months ago. It was leaking pretty good at the time. It's still leaking.

Are there any common leak points/seals etc.. on the 84 AT? The leak seems to be near he resevoir somewhere.. rear of the pan, looks below the seal somewhere.. I just haven't been able to nail it down yet.

Thanks
-Dan

A common leak is the front pump seal. It will normally start dripping through the torque Converter area. Your seems like the opposite end. There are multiple Cover seals on your tranny. I normally look on the parts diagram and will show what in that area. Use Pelicans parts diagrams as they are good.

from the info provided it sounds like the leak is one of 3 places,
the tank, loose or worn gasket or the cap isnt tight or the gasket is missing
the pan gasket, if the pan isnt flat where the gasdket sits then this will lead to overtightening of the pan bolts thus cracking the gasket.

or the bowden cable O ring,
remove the bowden from the trans and replace the O ring on the bowden cable housing

The pan gasket is rubber (at least all my pan gasket kits have been), so not sure about the cracking part. I guess it could happen if it's old but the OP just changed his. Also, I am wondering if RTV is voodoo in this area as I think my S Pan is warped a little.

I didn't know the Bowden has an o-ring there, good to know.

the pan gasket will split or crack if the pan is overtightened
dont use any RTV to seal it.
If your pan is leaking then remove the pan and true it up prior to installing it,
if you cant true it to flat,
then replace the pan
