M28/12 4.7L engine
Does anyone have either a good runner, or a rebuilder they would like to part with? :confused: (preferably reasonable)

M28/12 is a CIS Euro S block, not cheap. One is on ebay now for $3k, not that they will ever get that for it, but none are ever cheap, or cheap for long.

There is currently a running dual dizzy '84 Euro S car for sale in Indiana. It has no title so it would be a good parts candidate. Pull what is needed and sell the rest.

No title means it needs to ride on a trailer, not a good option for a track car unless you have spare vehicle that can tow, and room to store a car on a trailer off the street.
Pretty sure Kerry is not looking for a $3500 parts car 3,000 miles away. What he needs is a good replacement for his 4.5L CIS iffy head gasket motor, and the trouble I see is that almost 100% of used motors are going to also be iffy about something unless the heads are pulled and they get refreshed. |

Regular trips to the track and the full trailer you need will start to suck compared to tossing all your junk in the back and driving to anything even remotely local. Besides do you really want a totally hot and fast 928 that you NEVER drive on the street?

Not far from me...I wonder what it would take to get a title without the hassle of "laundering" it through another state?

International Title Company is really not a big hassle. I went though them for a motorcycle title. You get the stuff for $300 or so (for a car), and you take the paperwork to your DMV and you tell them the info is from a non titled state. They issue you a clean title in your name.

For a serious purchaser, best to find out why it has no title.

Yeah, a no title car is nothing but trouble. And it can be very expensive to resolve. I won't buy another car with no title, learned the very hard way...and if a no title car turns out to be stolen sometime in the past, guess who can be charged with receiving stolen property? Even if it was stolen 25 years ago....and has multiple "owners" since. Salvage yards around here require a title to scrap a car, or for that matter even a chassis. Even if it is all legit it can cost hundreds or thosands of dollars to legally obtain a replacement title. Oh by the way, some racing bodies now require clear ownership documents to race in their events.... title--->registration--->inspection--->license?---->
A recent example of a stolen VW microbus was discovered as the new owner tried to export it...was stolen in 1962.....it was confiscated and returned to it's real owner, and the fellow who was attempting to export it was out $40k. I know, extreme example, but Murphey's Law exists in our lives, even if we don't think so... |
All of my car purchases have started with a VIN check. It's easy to obtain and a quick call to the DMV or Police Agencies can yield clear or not clear. Besides looking for stolen equipment, your looking at past due fees. Just play it smart. I only say it's a Track Car since California has such strict Smog Laws, it can never be registered as an On-Road Car.
I also see it at the AX Races all the time with those towing their Track Cars, not sure what the big deal is. What about it you damage you car during a race, your not driving it home. Your Towing it home. Anyways, all just my opinion :D |
After 15 (?) years in NH, there is no more title. They won't sent you a new one in your name even if you have the old one. Just a bill of sale.

As Mike (DanglerB) has correctly divined, inexpensive is a necessity....
I was almost content to put another 4.5 in the car, then Mike told me how fast his euro is....well H.P. is seductive. So, I would like an M28/12 that is in usable , or rebuild-able condition. Some of my friends have tried to persuade me to go LS, but my heart sings to the tune of the M28/12. Fortunately, I have other cars for transpo. -K |
