Trying to remove passenger side seat
 

Looking for suggestions here. I'm trying to remove the passenger side seat. Let me say now that i'm replacing both seats so the destruction of this seat to remove it is on the table.

The rail on one side will not move in either direction and of course, mounting screws at all four corners are inaccessible with current position. It looks like something has jammed the threads of the shaft that runs from front to back of the seat on one side. If I disconnect flexible shaft on the stuck side, the other side moves freely to a point and then of course with the other side not moving, I can only move seat maybe an inch. I'm contemplating breaking down the seat to the point where I can get better access to the issue.

So I'm open to any suggestions including method for dissecting the seat itself.

6 way power seat?

I think there is a way to disengage and/or manually move the seat. The same tool that is used for the sunroof I think is what is used. This one is maybe a better version?

BTW I don't see that seat coming out via force without damage to the underlying support structure.

Yeah the 6-way seat. Unfortunately the hand crank can't overcome the sticking. I hit the area with some deep-creep earlier today. I'll let that do its thing and see if I get lucky. I even took a small pair of channel locks to the screw on the side that is stuck and it would not budge. Not much access in that area even with the seat raised as high as possible.

try pulling up on the seat then using the tool to turn the drive sometimes the same bolts that your trying to remove are also on the top rail.
NOTE they screw into the seat bottom they come loose and jamb the rail.

If the seat is power this is what I had to do: I found the wires controlling the forward and back movement motor under the seat and cut them, leave enough wire to attach/splice jumpers. I then connected a 12VDC power supply to the wires; these motors are polarity unspecific, i.e. hooked up one way moves forward and hooked up the other way moves the seat back. Remove the four SHCS's and mounting nuts and the remove seat. Repair cut lines.
If your seat is manual good luck; a cold chisel wont shear those SHCS's. These cap screws are made this way in case of an accident.

look under the front of the seat - there should be what looks like a 3/8 inch tube pointing towards the front - i think it's towards the drivers side - move this tube to the left (if i remember right ) and it should disconnect the motor drive from the seat - i had to really push back hard while sitting in the seat to get it to go back - good luck

I remember reading something about this before. I checked the underside of the drivers side seat which came out easily and I did not see that tube. This is an '85 model not sure if that matters. I'll check it again, thanks!

Thanks Gary. I understand your method but i'm not sure direct 12v to the motor will help in this instance. If i'm missing something let me know. I have disconnected the flexible cable from the motor and tried getting a turn out of "screw" with a pair of pliers, no good. Thanks for the info about the shcs's, I had contemplated the cold chisel technique.
