SuCCeSS!!!!

Got up with the roosters this morning and jumped from the jump terminal to the YELLOW wire in the 14-pin connector, and "SHE'S ALIVE"!!!!! SHE'S ALIVE!!!!

Solenoid hit, Starter growled, and it turned over...I did it several times in short bursts, to try to get her lubed up ( ) cranking in longer (but short) intervals.

Compression sounds good...in fact, she sounded great considering she has not turned since 1993!!!

Man I am stoked! Now to figure why it won't turn with the key...1st step, replace the ignition switch with the new shiny one the mailman brought this week!

Make sure the connection in the engine compartment on the passenger side right next to the positive jumper line is clean and the connection is good.

I guess I can record with my phone...never tried....

Funny story....My wife could care less about anything mechanical...I was so excited that I made her come outside and look...after I jumped it, she said, " So, it didn't start running!"

Kinda hard for it to do that with the gas tank in the shed...was my reply....

What a joy-kill

That's the issue with women, they only see what's in front of them and not what it could be.

yup!

At least when I showed my 16-yr old daughter, she clapped her hands, smiled and said "YAY- It works"...of course, she's a daddy's girl...I guess that's why I bought her a nice Murano and did not make her get a job!

Hey Leo...are the screens on the fuel distributor under the banjo fittings, or the small threaded connector fittings feeding the banjos? I am now starting on fuel lines, front and rear, and might as well check those too.

Another thought...my dad said I should pour some fuel into the intake and try to see if it will fire...what are your thoughts....

Yes my exwife back in to my 928 when she was backing out of the garage and my 928 was sitting on the other side of the drive way and she ran into the driver side rear quarter and then came in and said that i should not have to car park there i said it is a drive way plus it was park on the other side of the driveway how could you back in to in . Well I went out and she was looking at the front yard and turned to wheel and back right in to the 928.

Well, pulled all the plugs....they are bosche platinums....I had read somewhere that they did not help much with performance in the OB cars....They looked ok, but there was a little green tarnish on the ground electrode of each plug...Water looks good, no oil in it....oil looks good, no water in it...

I cleaned them, put a tad bit of Marvel in each cylinder, put a dab of copper anti-seize on the threads, put em back, and turned her over a couple more times just for ****s and giggles, and moved on.

I got my fuel lines cut off at the firewall, (was unable to disconnect them), removed the overflow/expansion tank.....was easy...Made new lines, and clamped on the two top fittings, slid the hose on the firewall fittings (not so easy), and then tightened the clamps (again, not so easy) but I got confused of which one went where, and I think I crossed them...gotta re-check in the morning....I can't believe I got confused on (2) bleeding hoses...

Anyway, here is a plug shot

Well, not quite running....but at least it will turn over when jumped....That is a milestone. I hope to finish the underhood fuel lines today...then, depending on time, I will either work on the rear lines, or the ignition switch.

Still looking for an opinion on pouring fuel into the intake and then bumping it over....wondering tho, if I am jumping the start circuit, will the ignition circuit allow it to fire? Or am I just filling the motor with fuel for nothing? I will feel much better when this thing turns with the key...

Should fire if you have key on, otherwise you're just jumping starter circuit. Probably easier and safer just to spray a little starter fluid instead of pouring in gas.

Spraying starting fluid in it might detonate it and blow a ring land.

Alot of people pour gas into the intake to see if the cars will tick over. It's not uncommon and probably won't hurt anything, but I would only use a small amount of gas. I agree starting fluid might not be the best bet for the engine. I would see if the car is firing at the plugs first. That way if it doesn't start you don't have gasoline washing over your cylinders and getting in your oil.

New development...

While upside down, under the dash, trying to figure out how to remove the ignition switch....

I noticed a button under the dash...checked the owners manual, and it says it is the "intense washer" pump button...ok, I get that...it's on the right, under the steering column. Well, I notice on the left, there is a housing, with pieces missing...it looks just like the intense washer button, but broken...

It is not in the owners manual.....so I/m like WTF?? I took pictures to post, and ask what it does....I thought maybe a fuse holder...while examining, I notice that the wires for it run under the steering wheel and are spliced to a red, and guess what....a thick yellow....not unlike the one I was jumping under the hood....Hmmmmm....anyone following my logic here???

Sooo, I take apart the intense washer button, put it's guts in this mysterious button, turn on the key, push it...and viola! the Damn engine cranks...WTF!!!

I guess that confirms that the ignition switch is bad...right?

I will put it back stock, but freaked me out.

Good thing I fix broke **** for a living.....

hehe, yeah, probably safe to "assume" the switch is bad.

Unless the PO wanted a cool "push button" start switch...but, somehow I doubt it...

Radio Shack -

Hey AirtekHVAC, There are several push button switches that Radio Shack carries in stock and work great as a replacement for a broken intensive washer switch. The best one was about $5 and has lasted several years with no problems in reliability.

Good Luck, Michael

yea, thanks....the intense washer is way low on the list. I will put it's guts back in after I rewire the new ignition switch back in. If I get it to run, I may wait to undo the push button for when I strip down the interior and remove the dash and pod....running 1st...then strip down, since I need to cut out floor-pans and weld in some new steel...so far, I have really enjoyed working on this thing...it's not too complicated...
