Euro Camshafts
I have recently aquired an '83 4.7 engine. So, my question is: 1) will euro cams work in it, and will it still be a non-interference engine? 2) Do any of you fine shark owners have a pair of euro cams, they would part with for a reasonable figure?
Thanks, Kerry

They will work. Not sure about the interference part. Its the combination of higher comp pistons, bigger valves, bigger intake, and bigger cams that made the Euro's more hp. You may see very little gain with just cams.. and they are VERY expensive if you can find them.

Here are pics of the two sets of Euro heads, with camshafts still in. I am still trying to determine what year these are from.

I was just looking on the parts side and it appears that each individual item is sold seperately.
Camshafts Heads Exhaust valves Lifters Piston ring sets Valve guides Valve springs. The two sets that I have available are complete sets. The only things not included are the bolts and of course a new gasket set. PM any offers.

I have no idea what you are looking to get (on a tight budget). If the price is right, I guess I could buy the heads for my domestic 4.7, (however, I would be happy with just the cams.) Are these the euro S 4.7 cams (M12)? Thanks, Kerry

Hey Kerry
That is the big question right now. I have the parts numbers listed next to the pics, However I have been unable yo determine MY. The cam shafts alone are $1200 each side on this site and used ones fetch $750 each side on others. I need to be in the $1000 ballpark for the complete setup.

That would be for ONE set which would include both cams, headers and all of the above listed items. The only thing it would not include are the mounting bolts and gasket set.
I have two complete sets. You could have first choice based on photographs and part numbers. I would be happy to take further pictures of the one you are interested in from any angle. You and I both would want full disclosure and both parties to be happy when the deal is complete.

Hey Kerry, I have had a person much more knowledgeable than I am kind of take me under his wing on the parts listed above. It has been a pleasure and I have learned a lot. The best we can determine, at this time, the ONE complete set of cam tower housing and heads is from a 1979 Euro which was the 4.5 L engine. There will be no distinguishable difference in performance between the US version and the Euro version for this MY.
While you are welcome to still consider these items, and I believe they would be fully functional in your setup, they may not achieve your goal of higher power. I am going to remove one set of valves and put a proper measurement on it. I have just purchased a micro-meter but cannot get an accurate reading with the valves in the closed/unsprung position. I will post results as I get them. I would love to see pics of your new engine. ![]() I ran across this picture when doing research and it was very helpful for me.

Will do Brian...I'm planning a mild euro/us hybrid ie: 4.7us with the higher lift euro cams, lower us CR, reusing my tubular headers/3" exhaust system (no Cat), K/N air filter, 28 deg euro timing setting. My goal is about 260hp/ 285lbft tq (at crank) with a little more rev capacity. -Kerry

That is awesome Sean thanks. That is WAY simpler than what I had in mind. (c clamps, cardboard, and spring compression)
My tool looks identical to the one pictured and should get reading quickly. Thanks for the kindness and the knowledge.

![]() Well that settles it. The cam towers and heads are 1979 US. Another friend helped me to identify an extra set of valves that I have as Euro S. Still in factory wrap. I enjoyed reading your write up about compression and I will study it further. Thanks to everyone for your help. Now lets find Kerry some Euro S cams.

Just curious. Are 81 Euro 4.5 Cams the same as the 4.5 US Cams?

Non S I think so, but part numbers would tell all.

I could be mistaken, but did any 4.5L engines get the high lift cams(.472/.432), or high flow heads?
