1984 Fuel Return To Tank Fitting Size
Does anyone know the correct fitting size for the return-to-tank fuel line that resides on the fire wall just beneath the passenger side hood hinge? I am removing the fuel cooler along with the rest of the A/C lines so I need to custom make a hose that connects this return line to the fuel rails mounted to the top of the engine and so far I have not had any luck locating anything that will work. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Do you have access to a thread pitch gauge? If so measure the threads on that fitting as well as the outer diameter. Then you can search around online and see what your options are.

![]() Porsche Fuel fittings all have a 1.5mm thread pitch, so you have either M12x1.5, M14x1.5 or M16x1.5. I have most of these fittings in stock. For the 928 its most likely one of the two larger sizes. A photo would help. I can make a custom hose for you with a few details & length needed............ ![]() ![]() Len at Autosportengineering dot com

Len,
This is what I am trying to accomplish. I've already pulled all of the A/C lines and removed the cooler so all of that real estate on the firewall is open. I've moved the double female connection from A to the end of the fuel rail. I've cut off the hose connected to the cooler line to rear fuel rail line and assembled the fitting encircled B to the double female coupling from A onto the rear fuel rail male fitting. Now I have an open ended tube that needs to connect to another open ended tube that resides at the other end of the double female coupling at A. I don't have a deep enough female to hose connector to engage any of the threads on the return to tank tube assembly. So my plan was to find a male threaded hose end that would allow me to turn the short hybrid cooler to rail hose assembly into a rail to return hybrid line by acquiring another double female coupling. As I type this out I am realizing that I am just making this more complicated than it really needs to be. Below is what I need - a single hose assembly that either has two female ends, one that will fit onto the return line and the other on the rear fuel rail. Ideally that double female coupling shown in circle A would not be reused. Can you make something like this? |

![]() Got to get the basics first. What thread size are we talking about? This looks like M16x1.5 using 9mm Hose. Am I correct? The fitting circled at the far left of your first photo (A at the firewall) looks like a double tube coupling so we need a female flare hose fitting like this................. ![]() Then for the fitting at the center of the motor (next to the wrench in your 2nd photo) I thought it would need another female flare tube fitting but now I see it connects to a hose so it must be a Male hose end like this........... ![]() to connect to the existing Female Hose fitting. Does this make sense? Just need thread sizes & lengths. The bits & pieces should all be in stock, so we can do this in a day or two. Len

Why remove the fuel coolers? I don't think I have one on mine...
