center console/tray

took this out of my parts car, kinda wanted to secure it in my car, but keeping the original integrity of my car intact if possible... any ideas on how to secure it?

Excellent question. I picked one up recently with the hope of having it recovered and installed in my 79 driver. I will watch closely

Yeppers; those four holes in the bottom of the box (lid open picture) should line up with retaining clips below the box; you then need four #8 x 1" long round head screws to mount the box down.

Thanks Gary, I may have mis-understood the original post. In my situation, 79 OB, it never had a center cassette storage so there are no pre-drilled holes to screw into. I was thinking sewn in velcro or some super adhesive.

yah same here, I know the car i pulled it from had the clips under the carpet, but in our case we are trying to add this with out having attachment points... looking for alternatives ...

We use 1'' self tapping screws in the 4 holes and they screw into the top of the hump with no problems

tychain99 09-09-2012 06:07 PM

yah, that was one idea.. or maybe velcro across the whole bottom would stick to the carpet well?

medipedicman 09-09-2012 06:31 PM

Self tapping sounds like the way to go. What screw length?
I had planned on sewing the velcro to the carpet and then adhering to the bottom of the case. It is really just to keep it from shifting while driving. It is not like I would be taking it in and out.

Thanks for the topic

yah, I rested mine in there and drove with it. It did not move much even just resting there. I kind of wanted to stick an i pod touch or some mp3 player in there, wire it so the wires came through it and hooked in unexposed . I do not like the look of aftermarket radios in the 928, they look tacky imo, but i need a way of listening to something other than the radio.

I found this center console on mine one morning....can't quite figure out how it works, but it was loosely mounted....(rotate clockwise)

The cat sure beats the dead rodent I found in the floor of my 914 last week ! How much to rent the cat for about a week ?

Sorry about the mix up fella's. After I wrote what I did and pressed "Submit Reply" I thought "what if they are adding this option because it's not from the factory"?

I would use 3/4" or 1" long #8 self tappers; it won't go anywhere when mounted....
