Its been a long time since I posted. hope all is well in the 928 community.
where do i add/check the level on my tranny? thanks, lukerman

trans at operating temp, on flat surface, at trans rear of car, drivers side, small clear resevoir on side of trans... to add trans fluid remove red cap, some folks use clear hose snake to abod fill above trans level... personally i convereted a new pump sprayeer used to spray insecticides, pressurize that an fill looking at full line on reservoir.

Hey I like that insecticide sprayer idea. I may try that as my manual pump one died. My 83 and 81 the reservoir is on the passenger side of the transaxle.

MPDano, it may be on the passenger side, I could be wrong.

The bug sprayer used was about 1-3 gallon capacity.

I have recently spliced in one of the trans lines a fitting that I can add trans fluid directly without being under the car, say when you drop the pan and gasket, drain T. convertor. Easy to pump in a large volume of trans fluid.

A friend of Steve cateano's gave me the write up how to do. Not, sure if it was steves idea or not.

I once heard there are fittings to check pressures of the trans, while under load. BUT, I am sure if they exist, the coupling fittings would cost big $$$.

What I didnt ask is what type pf fluid to use. thanks.

I use synthetic in mine. It's supposed to be Dexron III according to factory specs. But then, they didn't have synthetic when these cars were born. I am a proponent of synthetic and used Dexron IV in my '84 Euro. It's all good. I used Dexron VI in my GTS. And it's all good.

I recommend Dexron VI. Drain everything including your torque convertor to swap fluids.

There is a drain plug on the torc converter you also need to access. You will have to manually turn over the motor to position it if it's not visibal. You should also drop the trans pan and change out the filter. Make sure you order the filter, pan gasket and converter plug washer before you do the job.

I just did this not long ago so I remembered some of the things. I had a little problem getting the filter screws out. One was real tight and I thought it would break. I finally used an impact screw driver and that did it, but I was a little worried if it broke. My trans was real clean inside, like new, no particles in the pan.

That's always a nice feeling, isn't it? Looking inside a piece of the total equation and it's so darn clean and pristine looking that you hate to even touch it for fear of f'king it up? Then you hate to button it up because it's so darn pretty!!
