Flag mirror replacement??

Looking to replace flag mirrors, ,
from what I have read later type look great, but are a bit restrictive in the viewing what's behind department.
Anyone tried/seen/got a pic' of Mini Cooper mirrors fitted?
Or any other non Porsche alternatives?

Somebody put some Miata ones I believe and in my opinion, looked hideous. The only ones that look correct outside of the Flags are the later models ones.

The later model aero mirrors shouldn't be a problem but if you are really wanting to see what's behind, you just as well strap on a set of trailer towing mirrors instead of installing another manufacturers mirrors because either one will look bad. Or install a rearview camera.

Seen the Miata ones, totally agree, the base is all wrong.
Latter Porsche ones not worth the price, and hard to find any manufacturer that does not incorporate the mirror into the door.
Cooper type give A1 rear view.and base would cover the ugly square "flag"base.
Spin master, the "flag"mirrors ARE trailer mirrors!

Miata

Cooper:

Gonna be same ugliness in my opinion

Only Replacement that looks good is the later Porsche 928 ones:

Hadn't seen that type on a Miata, Only seen the earlier type that really had no base,What year"were the ones in your pic from?
(looks like the same as cooper???)
Hard to get uglier than the "flags!

Danglerb 11-19-2012 01:16 AM

The flags may be somewhat dated looking, but they still suit the lines of the 928, and the mirror remote will work.

Too me its a slippery slope messing with stuff that doesn't make it faster, more reliable etc. and more of a "different" than better option.

I just did a google search "Miata side mirrors" and that is what came up. It says it's from a Miata, I am unaware of different years and different mirrors. Either way, it's just my opinion. In the end, it's your car and whatever "you" like.

Are you guys really talking about putting Miata mirrors or a 928? What, aren't there any Escort or Neon parts advailable in the area? Miata seems kinda high end.

Not I Pete. Read Post #2.

Your Miata pic looks to be from a post 2004 model, a lot better than the earlier series, but the mirror head is a bit square compared to the cooper type.
I will give the Cooper's a trial run.:)
(my next plan is fitting the front bumper from a 1957 Cadillac El Dorado- the one with the Madonna like chrome tits:D -that will pretty it up a bit;))

I wanted to make my mirrors out of sheet aluminum like the simple mirrors on the 70s RSRs painted body color. They are very close to the body, very streamlined and light.
Probably don't work all that well but look so sporting.
Who has the time though.

Why would anyone put side mirrors from a different species on this poor vehicle??!!!!!!!!
Have you not seen pictures of plastic surgery gone awry?

This poor car is turning into more and more as a KIT.
AND ..some question the values and RESPECT this car doesn't receive??

The 928 is ending up as ...Mickey Rourke before and after.
Metal slaughter-house.
Uggh!

mikeesik 12-01-2012 10:23 PM

I will be honest.

When I hear about anyone doing phsycedelic mods with their own ideas that spring from their youth from making car models and wish to do repairs with basically -Wood and Wire-to the 928- It pisses me right off.

They do NOT deserve to own this car.

Grab an old Vette or Fiero and go to town with your tasteless mods and hill-billy repairs.
One by one these cars are -humiliated- as I am by some owners.

Leave the car alone to competent owners who have taste and the smarts to either fix it properly or admit to themselves that they cannot!
PAY someone else to do it!!
Remember my thread on -affordability?
Please don't make my favorite vehicle a laughing stock!

The 928 is done.

Don't know why you'd say that - I have never felt the need for bigger mirrors than the Aeros - they work extremely well.

They are expensive - but they look right.
