fuel rail dampners
Hi all
My 1988 S4 Auto started to have a bit problem starting cold.Hot starts right away.It does start cold but with a bit of accelerator I checked temp.2. sensor readings are fine.Just to check vacuum i pulled vacuum line to forward dampener and saw a few droplets of fuel .Engine was running .There should be no fuel there right? Please advice.Have this beauty only 3 months.Tomorrow will install fuel rail test port pressure gauge<---- will start there. Helpppppp |

I'm no expert, but if you're seeing fuel on the vacuum side of the system, I'd say the diaphragm is perforated.

if you find fuel on the vacuum port then the part is bad.
I would suggest to replace all 3 of these parts , the two dampers and the fuel pressure regulator. Also consider replacing the fuel lines. Dont bother installing the fuel port tester, your increasing the chances of a fire, the gauge wont tell you if the dampers are leaking, BUT pulling the vacuum lines off will. NOTE dont pull the vacuum lines off with the engine running, as an errant spark from a worn ignition wire will quickly set things ablaze
