Repairing Pascha seat cover..advice wanted.
I need to practice my sewing before I make another dash cover and thought I would replace the worn vinyl on the 911 seats I have with new black vinyl. The Pascha is in beautiful condition. The fading is minimal as I can now see the part that was concealed in the sew seam....I would say this Pascha is 95% in like new condition. However the back side is another story. I can see the factory sewed 1/2" foam and a very light cotton material on the back...it may even be a linen. Over the past 30 years of use the backing has dried and in some places torn loose at the seams. It is VERY fragile. I am thinking the purpose was to help keep the pascha from stretching out of shape?? OR... maybe it has no purpose ...??? I am thinking I should replace the backing ( or add over it ) with new material of some kind but am concerned about re sewing down the seams. Too many times equals putting a perforated line in the material that will make if weaker.
Should I just leave it as is? Or another idea to help maintain the material for another 30 years. ![]() ![]()

I always thought that sort of backing was to protect the foam from abrasive wear, but your idea about it helping to hold the shape may have some validity, too.
Agree sewing over the old seams may cause trouble. I would probably just glue a similar backing on there. |
