Are these OEM wheels forged?

Hello all,

I am looking for some information here. I am considering buying this set of wheels for my 1991 VW GTI. I can run them with adapters. I know that the "Clubsport" wheels are forged, but the D90s are not, and that you can tell the difference by looking at them...

...this ad states that these 7 slots are forged, but i have never heard of the seven slots being forged. Anyway to tell if this set of wheels is forged by looking at them? I asked the seller to get me some part numbers, but he's taking his time on doing that for me..

VWVortex.com - FS: staggered 16" Porsche turbos

if I should post this in a different sub-forum, please let me know...

Thanks in advance!

Sorry I can't answer your question, though I do have a couple of comments.

These wheels will look great on a Golf, if they fit. The Golf I used to come with similar-looking, slotted wheels called "P" wheels that I always thought looked nice;

I think the issue you might run into here is the off-set. The wheel off-set on a front wheel drive is vastly different.

Forged

Yes those are the forged 928 wheels used on the 928S in 7" F&R and in the 928S4 in 7" F and 8" R.

those are forged wheels, the strongest wheels that Porsche has ever used.
In the crash testing period the most they could do to these wheels was bend them

That's great news! Thanks so much for the help to you all.

With adapters, the final offset would be 27mm offset front, 23mm offset rear, which will have them fill the wheel wells nicely...I'm lowered on Koni coilovers, but not ridiculously so, and have the front fenders cut with flairs and the rear fenders rolled with flairs, so there will be no rubbing issues....

I never knew the 7 slots were forged, which makes me even more likely to buy them, as I know how much stronger forged wheels are than cast....

Thanks again, everyone

I have sold 2 sets of 928 wheels. All to VW guys. It seems to be popular. 1 more set to go. I'll make you a deal on these.

hey Pete!

LOVE the Gottis!

What r the specs on them? Width?, offset?, are they the 2 or 3 piece Gottis? Are they real Gottis?

PM me your price...

and I hope you guys realize, I am a VW guy only due to economics...if I made better money, I'd be driving a 944 or a 928...I love both

The set shown look to be all S4 rears, 8" wide, not sure if that is good or bad vs the 7" for a VW.

They aren't Gotti's, Etoile 455's 9.5 x 17 et70 , 11 x 17 et 49. (that's measured to the bead, the lip makes them 1" wider) true 3 piece wheel. The largest wheel is only 20lbs (according to a bathroom scale lol) Several guys think they will fit on their VW's (with mods), I think they are crazy but they seem to know their stuff

oh good god! I couldnt remotely make those things fit! lol! Beautiful wheels though...if youre serious about selling, post them on VWVortex, they have a wheel/tire for sale section subforum, and a "other bolt pattern" sub-subforum....man, crazy wide wheels! very nice!

yeah, the 7 slots look to be all 16x8s to me as well in the pics, which is fine, those are 16x8s all around in the picture of my car i have posted above....i would prefer 16x8 all around...guess I'll have to ask some more questions from the guy...

That looks quite good.
Different isn't it.
How was the handling effected or afflicted?

Pay no attention to how much tread is left, way too many of these cars sit for years or are driving a couple thousand miles a year. Look at the DOT manufacturing date code stamped into one side of the tire.

The DOT code is broken into xxxx xxxx xxxx 3 sections. The last section is the date area. This tire was made week 51 of 2007. If the code is 517 and not 5107, then that means week 51 of the 7th year of a decade. Not necessarily the 90s either!

5 year old tires should be derated at least one speed and traction level, 7 years and treat it with great caution it is NOT a reliable tire.

okay, so the part numbers for the wheels I have pictured in my first post are, according to the seller....

928.362.117 is the 8"
944.362.115 is the 7"

So, they are definitely forged then? I am assuming the 7 inch wide wheels are 944 wheels? I just need to know for sure that all 4 wheels are indeed forged...

Thanks for everyone's help!
