Update question?
Hey guys! update question,so after I got the car run for more then two seconds, I timed it perfectly and got it to idle, but now its running a bit rough and when I hit the gas it just dies....?
I was guessing it was a fuel to air ratio and played with the fuel adjustment near the flapper, but no better results. so i just put it back to where it was. so any ideas? should I do a pressure check of fuel at this point? any ideas would help. I cant wait to ride around in this car. Im still waiting for a new fuel filter hoping that my old one is clogged and thats why it dies when i give it gas, but other places I look they say its probably not likely :/ |
Sounds like you have a loose ground connection for your injector computer. Your symptoms are exactly like what I experienced once.
On the L-Jet models, the ground point is under the supplemental air valve on the pas. side valve cover. The fastener that secures this valve usually comes loose because the threads in the cover get stripped out. I relocated my ground point to the opposing screw hole on the forward side of the same valve cover. Problem solved. I also added extra ground connections on both sides of the engine, all connected like a network, including the distributor. I solved my problem and it never happened again. I apologize I didnt list my year, mine is a 1978 cis. the injectors are not controlled by electrical if Im correct.. |
It sounds like when you're allowing increased air into the throttle the fuel metering is unable to match it, so it stalls. Not sure what would allow this save for a defective pressure regulator allowing too much flow back to the tank. ??

Read my "it's alive" thread....exact same symptoms I had...there are a lot of steps to waking a CIS beast, as I have found. Gotta go through fuel system from rear to front....do you have any of the Bosch manuals? They are a quick DL, or I will be happy to send to you....

First thing is you need to put in your Profile Signature the Year of your ride. This will eliminate confusion of your fuel system. CIS is temperamental if not ran all the time. Check all the small screens in the FD and WUR. Do you have the CIS Gauges? If not, order them now.

You have to listen to advice, and apply it (meaning put in the effort). If you are tuning AF before checking fuel flow and pressures, you are not listening to sound advice. |

Yes I did get some good advice. :) and thank you. thats how I got it running for more then a couple seconds. now it will run until i push the throttle. :/
Im going to get the cis gauge asap. where can I get a good one? also, I took out the Fuel distributor out to just clean that screen and soak it with chemtool and while i was holding it... the plunger fell out lol and I carefully put it back together but the retaining clip(bent over piece of metal) and didnt mark where it was in position, so I put it where I thought it would be. so my question is..could the problem Im having have to do with an improper position of the plunger due to the retaining clip?? anyone know how far should it be able to go down? |

I was also waiting to see if anybody has a recommended cis pressure gauge?? and on plunger, Thank you! lol *palm to face* thats just good common sense. so yes it has pressure all the way when I push it. no play at all. I will update as soon as I change the filter, crossing fingers! I will cut the old one open and post pics if its gross:D |
did you change / remove the little filters on the CIS banjo bolts, the ones going to each injector?

A big problem I found in my CIS car was the orings inside the fuel distributor, they were hard and almost all gone, I got most of them from ace hardware, this is a big problem on CIS cars. They will cause alot of running problems, you can do the job your self or send it off to have it rebuilt. The job does not take a long time and helps the running of the car alot. CIS cars are old and the orings are all bad, It is like a small engine with bad piston rings.

AirtekHVAC, after removing my distributor there was only one filter where the banjo bolts are concerned, and the one that I found was in the top of the distributor itself.
weird? I thought it was something broken inside it, but no a little filter..but but the only one.. Paris, you did it yourself? and it wasn't difficult? |
Yes I did, it was a piece of cake to do.

Some of my filters were stuck up into the banjo, and some were crammed down in the distributor.

That is the catch with "getting it running" you flush all the lines into the most expensive filter on the car, the fuel distributor and injectors.
