Hmm, separated at birth..?

Wondering if anyone else thought that the Aston Martin 177 looks like an updated 928?

I think there's a profile resemblence for sure. That Aston is a beautiful car, my only complaint on the Astons is always the grill.

Similar in shape, but not in lines.

I suppose that imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery. :-)

Maybe that is why many people today think the 928 is some new car.

excellent pictures. I am always amazed at how well the 928 continues to hold up in styling. It just doesn't get that dated look. I am also always surprised at how it is passed over in those shows and articles that present the top "beautiful," or "stylish", or "whatever" cars of the past. Especially when you consider that it won the 1978 international COTY award, and was the first sports car to ever do so. Even the Muira did not have that feather in its cap.

I think the new Vanquish resembles it even more, esp. the rear.

Also, check out the indentions around the taillights on the new 991 911. Very similar to the OB 928 I guess they've finally realized what their best design was...

Owning a 928 is risky business - but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fudge".

Physics -

When it comes to designing a car that is comfortable, aerodynamic and attractive to the customer - every manufacturer must contend with the same problems. The trick is to build a practical vehicle that can slip through the air with as little wake or turbulence at highway speeds as possible. As the fuel efficiency regulations continue to tighten, most predict that every car will gradually morph into something that will appear to all come from the same mold (if we are not there already). Sadly, vehicle manufacturers can't beat the laws of physics or out maneuver their bean counters. Long live the 928....

No joke,

I went to a car show last Summer with my 84'. The "Brilliant Geniuses" at the entry gate were not letting me into the show because they said "This show is NOT for new cars!"

These dudes are holding up a line of 200 cars behind me, all because they thought my car was "new". They're actually arguing with me....after about maybe 5-6 minutes of arguing with people that clearly have no business running car show, I took my left hand, pointed to the Registration Sticker on the windshield....

Agreed, the necessity of function will always produce forms that resemble each other. Never the less, the similarities indicated here seem a little close for coincidence.
