Just watched a rerun of wheeler dealers where they bought a 79. Makes me want a 928 to park next to my 911.

There is nothing else really like a 928, plenty of similar in some areas, but nothing else has the whole package of style, performance, smell, and comfort for a TALL driver.

Combine that with total naivete on repair costs and middle age, bingo.

That show is exactly the reason I bought mine. They kept talking about an affordable supercar.

I have to confess, up front I got the car because the body lines are so awesome and the market was/is so soft.
After the fact, I realized how much car I got. I don't think I will ever not have a 928 from here.
It is the complete package as Danglerb said.
I also have TALL issues, and the car works for me. I do have about 10MM between my head and the roof liner, however, because of the sun roof.:)

The 1st time I saw a 928 I fell in love with the car before I knew anything about them. The price was right but when I brought it home I discovered it was absolutely nothing like the 911's I had driven for years. After about two months of ownership I flipped it to a dealer after getting it running and looking pretty - and immediately regretted the sell.

Like many others, the car had really grown on me. I now appreciate the design and quality of the 928 more than ever and enjoy owning the car.

I just posted a similar post on RL and got a few slams for asking the same question ...........tough crowd over there ! I just wanted to know what other peoples' reasons were considering all the non P Car options in the same GT category that are more generic,easier and less expensive/ specialized to fix or mod...............................But for me it was the body lines or lack thereof, it looks like nothing else on the planet, Plus the only time I see another one on the road is when the local 928 guys get together

-Wanted a 'modern' Porsche to supplement my archaic air-cooled 911 fixation with creature comforts like good AC, cruise that works, etc etc. but couldn't see spending $30K on an '02-'03 996 that is built like a Toyota
-Wanted a 32V V8 but also wanted a shark body. That confined me to '85-86 S3 cars
-Grew up in the 80s and the 928 made a big impression on me in 80s 'classics' like Weird Science, Risky Business, Scarface.
-Love that 928s are actually very DIY friendly for most jobs and upkeep costs can be reduced by 75-90% by saving on $95/hr shop time.

I worked for a very well know and wealthy entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. I went one day with him in his 911 to a local dealer, and saw a 81Bambuis Beige 928 sitting there. By the end of the day i had bought it, and still have it. Plus a couple of others I picked up on the way :)

Loved them since I first saw them. Many years later I had the opportunity to get one, so, I did. Cool design, V8, and it's a Porsche. hehe What's not to like! :D

I kind of think the opposite about 928s.

My '83S cost $5000 and ran great w/ 61K documented 1 owner miles no major issues and all records from new. I think that is a bargain. The Clearcoat was failing on doors and rear bumper cover though and it needed odds and ends but what car doesn't?

Even if i were to spend $10,000 afterwards it would still be $7000 cheaper and faster than:

1983 porsche 911 sc

SCs are not more fun or more useful to me than my 928.

Find a nice one at a good price and you can't beat the 928 for Porsche value.

I got my by way of a trade i almost didn't do Glad i did it :) i was about to send it to the shop when my 1967 Mustang DD went down so i started to drive the porsche and haven't stopped i have had a few issues along the way and with all of your help and this forum she runs great now i just need some odds and ends.
