Front Strut 86.5

Now replacing the front shocks with stock Boge.
I know the thread has been done before, but my first crack at it.
Just to give the grey beards another chance to shake their heads..., I wanted to pull it off without dropping the lower control arm.
I saw the thread on RL about pulling the liner and swinging the strut back and wasted an hour with that.

Then I decided to try and get at the self-locking nuts for the upper control arm, thinking I could be a hero, and wasted another hour of my life.

Then I went ahead and dropped the lower control arm like everybody else.

Question for the forum:

I managed to rip the boot on the A arm ball joint. Yeay!
As far as I can tell 431 407 377 A, which is listed on 928 Intl.
Surely there is a compatible boot out there if I going digging at a parts store?
Anybody used a equitable car model or over the counter swap?

Says Audi dealers may have them also, but more $$$. Links to three more threads in above thread link.

Thanks for the info D.
I got side tracked by some type of weapons grade GI bug my kids brought home from school.
I appreciate the tip, what happened to all those guys on the old threads?

Great!, confirmation that I'm not alone on this short cut! I've found this to be the real easy way, 20 minutes max, strut out, whenever I've mentioned this, The "grey beards"( I like that one- thanks crumpler )all say the lower arm is the ONLY way to go.
( I was actually starting to think that it was only easy for me because my engine is 90 degree V , Porsche is 60, figured I might have access whereas Porsche powered cars were too tight, space wise, to get to the two nuts on the inner guard.)

We got that too! One daughter Thursday, my wife Friday, me and the little one Saturday. It was a brutal, but quick for us.

Nice work as usually Dave,
let us know how new stock Bogies feel.
I don't like too hard a hard (Bilstein) and have thought of going the same route.
Plus they are much cheaper.

Thanks Matt (it's a pretty small project compared to what you have going on), I'm waiting for sway bar bushings and a few other odds and ends, then I will button it up and post some pics.

Plexus: I was so close to those inner nuts on the upper arm I could taste it. I could get my hands on them, but couldn't get enough force. I was about to start ham-fisting and moving things out of the way and then realized I might do better if I just swallowed my pride and abort.

Sorry you guys got the Tali-bug Pete.
My daughter is the toughest one in my family, she was vomiting in a bowl and still watching cartoons when I left for work last week.

Unrelated side bar that you guys would appreciate:
Mrs. called me out over the weekend on time and money spent on car!!!!
I had to broker a compromise...now I have to match whatever I spend on parts and put it into the new kitchen fund!
Dude, that stings.

Big BIG! torque on them! long 1/2 inch breaker bar, 22mm(from memory )socket, Mine are in the wide open spaces, easy to see / get onto- still need the breaker bar., but once undone, give the A arm a pull from the wheel well, easy,
Probably need a jack under the lower arm to get back into position on the re-install.
Removed/replaced shocks both ways, for me this way easier, faster.

Just tell her that by the time you die, they will be worth treble what (you told her) you paid. Most women appreciate a profit on what they consider junk.

I'm on the 2-more-cats plan. Not liking it. 6 of them running around, scratching stuff up, fur drifting into my cereal.

Kitchen for me also.
Just finished with cabinets and lighting,
Now she wants paint and counter tops.
All this for a S4 suspension upgrade. :-)

Will work for parts.

Those cats are very important you guys, it's the only way your veterinarian can drive a Porsche.
And I need to do an intake refresh next.

Pete how about some pics of this car!

All funny - I told my wife I needed to add an S-4, she thought another dog would be better, so we adopted a shepherd -x. 4 weeks later I have a hole ( literally!) in my arm where i got between my big alpha male golden retriever x husky and the new guy during playtime; he went back to the adoption agency after a second scrap with the big guy, and i still don't have an S-4

Now she wants me to build an English style bar in our house, guess i'm just going to have put my foot down and say yes dear, sure!

We just had the same Porsche/Kitchen discussion a few days ago, that is too funny.
I just did the Kitchen 6 years ago though
Cats are great but say goodbye to the leather furniture.
