Going out on a limb here, but rear shocks and/or swaybar bushings?

Something very loose.

Can be front or back.

Try checking torque of front lower a-arm bolts. I had an 84 where the front drivers lower a-arm bolts backed out pretty far. Felt like the rear of car was on ice. Getting off I95 south, just below Richmond, on a long right sweeping exit ramp it felt like the car was going to swap ends.

In rear, check the mounting bolts for the rear crossmember.

Check, front and rear, the camber/caster/toe eccentrics. Could have one loose and the setting is sliding around.

Check the torque on the main suspension pin, each end has a 22mm nut and when this is loose the feeling is exactly as you describe. Unless your wheel bearings are shot as that will have similar effect but you typically will have some audible issues also.

+1 Or the PO left out cone washer(s) after working on the rear suspension rather than risk insanity trying to keep them from falling out on the ground after everything is lined up and trying to insert the main suspension pin for the nth time.
Believe me, I've been tempted, but didn't. I think I left the Stepson undone for a night and came back the next day after using up my curse vocabulary and calling it everything but a child of god. It went right together the next day.

After checking the lower link pins then you want to check the lower rear control arm eccentrics these get torqued to 140 ft/lbs and are usually loose.
Your clue they are loose will be polished areas as the eccentrics will be sliding back and forth in the slots.
if they are tight then the bushings that the bolts go through should be replaced if all of the other parts have been checked

So if everything is torqued to spec and I want to replace the bushings then who sells them? I looked on this site but haven't found them yet

Nevermind I finally found the bushings but one more question. I have I believe stock adjustable shocks and my question is can you rebuild them or not?

End of year half price sale going on at 928 International |Porsche 928 Parts | New, Used and Rebuilt for used parts. I was digging around in a box full on Monday looking for other stuff.

Good that you have a budget for fixing, don't spend it easily.

Bilstein rebuilds their own shocks, free for life if you bought them retail through an authorized dealer, but reasonably priced otherwise, used to be around $80 including return shipping, but rebuilts have no warranty.

Sometimes I drive right by Bilstein right off Scripps Poway Pkwy. I tried at one time to buy direct from there and they wouldn't have it.

So is blistein the best shocks you can buy for taking tight curves at high speeds? If I wanted to get some extra torque and hp what would be the best route. Say i wanted 300+hp and 330ftlb of torque. Ive already got headers but have no idea if anything has been done to the engine.

The Bilstein/Eibach Spring combo is for sure tight. I run this combo on my Euro and for sure stays more flat on turns. The question "best shocks" will always be subjective and some will say stock shocks/Eibach, some will say Koni shocks/stock springs. Same goes for asking oil weight.

IMHO, I think the Bilstein/Eibach combo is awesome but I like the feel of a track car. It's really what "you" like.

Each person has their own tastes, I've had Boge/Eibach, Bilstien and currently running Koni's with 3 dot spring. To me this is the best set up so far and won't be changing to anything else.

Porsche already installed a CAI on them from the factory and it's a bit difficult to improve on it. There really are no "super chips" for an '84. Best bet is to get it running as good as it came from the factory, then go the route you have so far with headers/exhaust.

Suspension tweeks and drivers education will get you far more gains than sticking a K&N filter on it.
