Merry Christmas #30
I stumbled across a deal I could not pass up....
#30's home is a very COLD 800' ft., I added AC this summer, but ignored the heat aspect. No more! Got (2) of these puppies, 240v 5000w max shop heaters...$99 each, and $20 off coupon! Sweet! Now gotta pull some wire!

Garage journal has some fancy garages, some not so fancy, many eternal improvement projects. One of the common complaints people have after putting in a heated floor, falling asleep under the car.

Ron, I'm having second thoughts on this one. It is possible that the spiders will become more active when the shop is heated.
Non-seasonal cross-species mating could result in some type of elite, super spider hatching out under the workbench.

Ya know...had not thought of that....I have some big sum beechin spiders around there.....I'll only turn them on while I'm working.....I also have plugged in one of those ultrasonic pest eliminators....the bugs seem to love it, it attracts those damn stink bugs in droves (methinks it does not work as intended)
The guys on garage journal went bonkers for these heaters when they went on sale....with most people extremely pleased with the results. I was thinking about a waste oil heater, but it is cost prohibitive....I think these will be wonderful. If I ever get this damn shop wired, I could insulate.....

Just kidding on the spiders!
Although I've got to de-clutter everything on the shop floor to not have a brown recluse under it the next morning. The heaters look awesome. ![]() I could use one right now. It's funny, there is a sub-panel in my garage that I assume was for a shop heater that the previous home owner had removed. Have a good weekend.

I would not want your electric bill after using two of those!
Electric heat is rare around these parts. Sterling Garage Guys are fairly popular. I'd love a waste oil burner but it's impossible to find even a used one at a decent price.

I was thinking the same when in the garage today, be nice to keep the car a little warmer. I worried about the rear spoiler to hatch developing a crack along the seam but so far it is fine and it was about 10 F last night.
I was also interested in a waste oil burning unit but heard from more than a few that they are a maintenance headache. Also needed cleaning and filter changes (like every week) Very cool Ron and great price, 240V will operate more efficiently as i am sure you already know. Where did you find these? Beware of the Brown Recluse spider Ron, Google it to see what it looks like. I think they may live these days down in your area. Knocked my friend Glen (who is 6'-6" & 250 lbs) on his ass for a year. Really messed him up. Actually jumped and bit him, very aggressive little spider.

Ron, I have one of these operating in my garage for years now - about half your size - I can usually get it up to about 60 degrees in there no problem - and that's in Denver - so you should be nice and toasty - they will eat up the kwh though - great price

Matt, we don't want Ron to worry about this.
![]() In most cases, the recluse bite will only cause local necrosis (cellular death) of his flesh. Because of his aversion to doctors, we will just have him debride his own tissue, then a soak in the parts washer, plus or minus any other home remedies we can provide!

I have killed a widow in the shop......no brownies yet.....I. Going to treat the building in the spring....should cut back on the creepies and the crawlies....
240v heaters should not spin the meter too bad, no more than strip heat on a heat pump, 5kw ain't a lot...li think max rated operating amps is 20.3.....I'm looking to keep it above freezing in the shop....60 ish max.....these should do the trick perfectly. Lol....yea, I probably would just soak a spider bite limb in the parts washer....maybe use bar-sol instead of purple power....then rub some dirt on it..all good. Got them at Northern Tool. I have done a ton of work on waste oil systems....rebuilt many after meltdowns. The biggest problem is in the fuel...motor / transmission / cooking oils only.....problem with most, is people think it will burn anything....antifreeze builds a cone around the burner and makes them into a burned out glob.....petroleum oils only.....the second problem is the cost...ouch....they ain't cheap...even used..... I do not have natural gas in my area, and propane heat is more expensive than the electric.... If it works good for you in Denver...then I got it made!
