ignition switch wires
 

I pulled the harness plug off the back of the ignition switch. I wanted to check the condition and see how the actual switch is removed. I made the mistake of taking the back off of the plug and the wires all came out in slow motion and I couldn't stop them. now I have no clue how they go back. can any one tell me how they go back? Also in the pic is a smaller yellow wire that seems to go nowhere. it had a wire spliced to it where the aftermarket alarm was. any advice on that wire would be helpful too.

The switch back has little numbers adjacent to the female receptacle. These numbers correlate to the wire in the current flow/wire diagram.

I believe your MY is necessary to determine...my '79 may have some different wires to the switch, but the main wires would be similar in their logical order of functionality and color code to function (if original).

Odds are that the yellow wire is the "50" wire to the starter and would be at the far clockwise rotation location. Red is typically a "30" bus (always HOT) and Black is "15" bus (Switched On); you have a couple of each (normal) I am not sure of any position dependency of these, there probably isn't. Thinking of the switch now going counter-clockwise From Start, the key returns to the Run which would be "15" and probably Aux, then would be the "30" and prior to them would be others (like parking lights, radio).

You should also be able to align the back to the switch in its location to help.

You really need the wire diagram and Alan to pipe in.

Mr. Helman here, I have the CD's that I got from 928's are us. I should have the wire diagram in there. I find the CD's difficult to navigate. maybe its just me. I will try and wrap my brain around it this weekend. I am very close to trying to get it started.

Same all years:

50 = Yellow
X= Black/Yellow (x2)
15 = Black (x2)
30 = Red (x2) (there should be 1 extra spare terminal on the switch)
R = Red/Black (thick wire)
P = Grey

The order on the terminals pairs doesn't matter - put them where the they fit best.

use that camera for pre shots too. ign switch not the only one. theres 14 pin connector in engine comp. theres a connector in pass footwell....
fuse panel itself should get pics - a-z harnesses at the bottom of panel.

nice though brittle breakable connectors, to open and clean contacts/troubleshoot, time lapse/slo motion fiascos openings not so fun. better to have pics of it being in original state when all cleaned back together.

ignition wires are back together. I had to solder the yellow wire back onto the pin receiver. It turns out that the Yellow wire was the key to my wiring issues I have been chasing. (wont turn over) It turns over perfectly now. I'm going to Finnish up the new fuel lines this week if time permits and then we will see if she is going to run! Big THANK YOU! I was pulling my hair out on this one.
