My OB/S4 spoiler install...

I have been sitting on an S4 wing(Thx Fred) for some time now, procrastinating doing the install due to the bodywork/paint I had done, which is perfect. Hate the fact of drilling into it trying to line up the S4 wing for fit.

Anyway, after reading MPDano's S4 wing write up, it motivated me to get moving.

There are a few ways to bolt the wing down, allen heads are mentioned, etc. I used the same process Leo did and cut into the side of the hatch rail, notching it out for the nuts to be secured with a tool. The ratchet open end wrench works great. We found a small one and used compact 10mm hex nuts with lock washers, M6x1.0...

Now, my S4 wing happen to have perfect bolts in tact, so I did not need to supplement and custom fab/secure, etc, like Dano did. If you noticed Leo ran a tape measure 7.5" up from the bottom corner of the hatch lid, right where the angle is. 7.5" up you make a mark/line, and use that as your starting point. This 7.5" is RIGHT on. From there exactly 2 inches gets measured up and there is your front wing bolt, as there is exactly 2" from bolt tip center to center. Then we added a piece of masking tape over the two marks and ran straight lines across to give us a point to sit the wing. We set the spoiler bolts down, and then proceeded to tap the spoiler around into place, looking even, 1/2" space on outside of bolt to outside hatch edge. We pushed down on the wing to make impressions in the tape, and then we noticed that the bolts were not in alignment, so every wing may differ depending if these bolts were knocked around, tweaked, etc. Just an FYI, and a good note. Once we had our impressions then we made our drill holes, starting with a 1/8th bit to clean through then go with the larger.

I did my install at my Pop In Laws Auto Body shop, so had access to some cool stuff. I found some of these round rubber/plastic clip plugs that would fit great into the notch outs that we made for our wrench, etc. I cut the top round off of them to sit along the inside hatch edge, and notched them for the nuts that stick past the edge. Then these plugs got packed with Silicon and set in to harden up. Then we back filled the small space around the bolt where the plug was notched with silicon as well. This should resolve any possible water intrusions as discussed, a few times before with making these notches in the side not using allen head bolts, etc. I found it to be a pretty good install and seems to be watertight and clean, even kinda almost looked like it could have been made that way????? haha

I love the look of the S4 wing on the OB's, always have. I am now going to add back the black vinyl PORSCHE sticker on the rear bumper cover, which I lost when we did the restore.

Just wanted to continue with how Leo did and documented his install, I moved right along from there, that 7.5" starting point was dead on. Hopefully my idea on cleaning up the holes notched will continue to help people out during custom fabrications with these OB S4 wing retro-fits.

Whole deal took about 1.5 hours, good times....

Beautiful work brotha! I love how you used the rubber covers for holes. If I only knew to use allen head bolts beforehand, mine would have come out as pro as yours. Great Job!!

Nicole sells some raised letters that glue into the existing letters on the rear bumper cover that would look badass on your car.

Well, the install went great, looks awesome and is holding up as expected.
I officially rate/guarantee this install at over 140MPH, tested!!!!

For the record, for the Law enforcement fans, that means 70mph.

With the install of my S4 wing, and other tinkering going on before Porsche's at PJ's, I got itchy last night to finally get my extra gauges installed. I have been sitting on an Air/Fuel gauge and Water temp gauge, both white faced and aluminum bezeled to match my gauge cluster. Install came out nice, dremel cut them into the console next to the clock, on both sides. I thought it came out great, take a look...
