80 - Euro cruise control help
Was hoping someone could give me some insight in getting the cruise control working on a 1980 Euro 928. I tested the cruise at highway speed to see if it would set. Once engaged all it does is go to a wide open throttle and accelerate beyond set point and continue to climb until turned off. Any suggestions as where to start? I know someone here has had this problem before. Thanks, milspam

I am guessing that you have already checked the vacuum feed for the cruise control system. I am also asuming that you have checked the fuse and relay for said system.
Probably, with your set of symptoms, the cruise control brain is the culprit. The cruise control brain is located in the center console. To access it, you will need to pull the carpeted side piece on the passenger side. IIRC, there are 2 8mm nuts that hold it in. It is the silver colored box mounted to the bell housing tunnel towards the front of the car. You can buy a rebuilt brain, or attempt to diagnose and fix the brain yourself. Good luck

stepson - thanks for the input and insight in giving me a starting point. I have not check all the points you listed, but I will. I have replaced most all of the vacuum hoses, but probably need to start at the drivers side " I think" splash guard and start checking there and follow on with the rest of your suggestions. Got any input as to where to look for a rebuilt cruise brain?
Best Regards to all. |

I think Roger @928sRus sells them. 928 Intl might also.
Rule out everything else first before changing the brain, but I believe in the thread I found a while back, that particular symptom was exclusively a brain issue.
