A Visitor In My Air Box

Just thought I'd share what was found in my '84 airbox when doing a routine inspection.
Appears a mouse had crawled through the air intakes and found a home, building a nest in his/her new sanctuary atop the air filter. Since discovering this, I've plugged the intakes with sponges and haven't had any mouse activity since. I just have to remember to remove the plugs before starting the engine.

That's nothing...

A friend had his 993 in the garage and a large bag of dog food. Looks like some martens got into his garage and decided, the dog food needed to be moved....

Here are two pics of the engine in the shop....

OP while your inspecting you might as well swap in a new air cleaner,
since the one you posted is in upside down
NOTE the hump points to the sky.
Though after looking that filter is missing the center tabs along the front edge.

Garage
Mouse house aside...that's a nice looking engine compartment. Did you have your hose clamps redone? They look almost new, along with your fuel rails. Very nice!

Brian.

Thanks for the compliment. I keep the engine compartment as clean as I can for the sake of appearance and to quickly and easily be able to identify the various wires and components . I use a rag and mineral spirits, it cleans things up very nicely. Everything in the engine compartment is original except for the temp sensor II which was recently replaced due to a intermittent non-starting engine issue. Believe it or not this little inexpensive sensor (about $10) can cause major headaches if not working correctly.

I recently replaced the stock filter with a K & N hoping to improve air flow unfortunately the rubber straps securing the air box lid are now loose, probably have stretched over time and need replacement. For the time being I placed some foam under the straps to tension them up.

sadly the KnN isnt going to do anything to increase the performance of your engine.
BUT it will increase the amount of dirt that will flow into the cylinders.
I would return that filter and buy a factory filter.
If you doubt the statement,
take a picture of the cleaned lower portion of your air box,
then take another picture after 1000 miles.
I will bet you will find lots of film and dirt

If I ever want a K&N filter I can get them free, usually one in the trash at the local Porsche shop.

And all this time I thought the K&N was superior to the factory filter, learn something new everyday. Glad I hadn't discarded the original filter, it had only a 100 miles on it. Going to slip that one back in and not mess around with these so called 'improvement' filters.
