headlight aiming

what is the procedure for aiming these headlights - the manual only says use optical equipment - these seem to be aimed too low - I did "adjust" them upward but it seems hit or miss - I guess I could keep adjusting them upward until I notice people flashing their brights and giving me the finger - in the old days there was a system of parking on a level place and shining them at a wall and adjusting them - what do I use for these - I have asked at service centers about this and they look at me like i'm nuts (no comments please) like they've never had anyone request this - also in the picture you can see that the plastic cowling does not meet the base of the assembly - I can find no way to adjust this - I first thought this was why the headlights aimed low but I see that the headlight frame is fixed to the base and is not adjustable - same on both sides - could it be they have sagged down over time? - and what is the thing in the second picture for? -It's behind and at the bottom of the headlight assembly - also not an adjustment - i'm in the dark on this (pun intended)

My garage is 15 metres deep, with the car backed up against one end, I took a measure from the floor to the dead centre of the headlight, on the other end marked a line at the same height across the wall with tape, on low beam set the kerb side light to centre on the tape, drivers side slightly lower. if the car is close to square on, lights will not be a problem to oncoming traffic, and lights up good on high.
(if I have the need to punish brightness coming at me, with my headlights set like this, high beam works really well,-plus I have replaced my Euro fogs with US drive lights, my high beam gives them all six)

thanks plexus - i'll give it a shot - drove this car at night a few weeks ago and it was really dark since the headlights were pretty much hitting the ground about 30 feet in front of car

Been adjusting Headlights forever lol
First off when doing it by sight without some equipment you need a understanding
of what to archive .

(1) You want the Drivers side Light to shine straight ahead without the light shining into the " Oncoming Traffic Lane at all like 90 % thus blinding them
as a result that Light well now light up the Center of your Lane as well as straight ahead .

(2) the Passenger side Light you want to also shine straight ahead as well as into the Shoulder on the right simple as that .

I wait until the last light of the day then with the Car Perpendicular to a fence or wall some 20 to 25 feet back just adjust the lights as in " 1 & 2
Drive and test in total Dark and if to low or Hi just readjust the height.
Your all done Its so simple .
