17" or 18" rims for my 1984 928

Hi Guys

Which 17" or 18" would you recommend for my 928?
Would prefer direct "easy" fit
Thanks

I like the 17 in early turbo twist aftermarket wheels,
NOT the BOxter wheels,
they are made for the 928

A rough guide line is boxster wheels will usually fit but 911 won't. The 928 offsets are closer to the Boxsters, If the wheels are narrow enough they both may work but when you get over 8" it gets important to have the right spacing. The hard part for me was finding wheels I liked and could afford. Single piece cast wheels are the cheapest but didn't seem to have much selection until 19". I ideally wanted a nice set of 3 piece forged wheels in 17" but I couldn't find any used and new they are close to $1000 a wheel. I wouldn't buy used cast wheels either. They are a wear item and could crack at any time.

OK for the front you want an offset of ET 65 the lowest you can go is ET 50
For the rear ET 65. The lowest you can go without spacers is ET 43.

NOTE the lower the number the further out the edge of the rim will be.
NOTE ideal rim sizes are 8 inch up front and 10 inch in the back
NOTE you can get Carrera 4S wheels these are F 8 X 18 ET 58 and R 10 x 18 ET 57.
Otherwise you have to hunt for the 17 in wheels.
you can sometimes find 928 wheel sets just pay attention to the ET

This is not completely accurate. You cannot discuss offset fitment with out knowing the width of the wheel. Offset is from the center of the wheel to the mounting surface, it does not take into account the width. To understand how far to the fender or inside the wheel will end up you must also take into account the width. You can use a wider ET range with narrow wheels than you can with wide ones. They work hand in hand

lets say we are using 8 inch wide for the front and 10 inch for the rear,
then the offset limits are accurate.

18" Antera's 8" front, 10" rear with P-Zero 225/40 zr 18 , 265/40 zr 18 rear.
Front rubs just slightly at hard lock, didn't need adapters with these rims.
I would stay with 18's if I changed rim or tire.
John
