Hi, Im only thinking about buying 944 (and tune it without or with minimun wasting the health of the car) in the future one or two years (cause I dont have money for it now :-)
Is there somebody racing in 944 Turbo tuned to 400-500 hp against new sports car on circuit? Which are faster and which slower on your favorite track, please write many examples. :-) I am decided to buy 944, when i will have a money to buy it, I only wanna know if its good investition to buy perfomance parts for the 951 for racing or if i will buy a standard n/a 944 with 163 hp just for relax or both. :-) BTW: I´m not an ego-masturbator , I wanna it for joy. :-)

No body has a 944 "tuned" to 4-500hp . Some guys may have "built" a motor in that range, but I assure you they spend serious money to do it. You can't just throw a chip and exhaust on and get that kind of power.
I have a "tuned" car. chip, headers, exhaust. A couple weeks ago at the track, (while in 3rd gear at full boost) a 370z went by me like I was tied to a post. Simple fact is you aren't going to compete with most of the modern cars out there, STI's, Evos, practically everything now day has 300hp stock.

Where your thoughts are bordering on lunacy is that it is possible take a 163hp engine up to 4-5 hundred merely by tuning it. You need to be thinking in terms of major modifications & upgrades. With that in mind, I hope you have a very fat wallet.

If you don't have the money then stay away from these cars. They will take all your money Is there somebody racing in 944 Turbo tuned to 400-500 hp against new sports car on circuit? Which are faster and which slower on your favorite track, please write many examples. :-) There are a couple of people, but their engines have a ton of money on them. Most of the setups on the 400 to 500hp, vary from 2.7 to 3.2 engines. Were are talking over 20K. I am decided to buy 944, when i will have a money to buy it, I only wanna know if its good investition to buy perfomance parts for the 951 for racing or if i will buy a standard n/a 944 with 163 hp just for relax or both. :-) The 944 turbo is a fun car to drive. I never drove the 163hp version so I can't comment. I heard they are more reliable. Good Luck [/QUOTE] |

Yes I'm aware of the specs, but I read somewhere that their 1/4 was 13.3. That's pretty quick, but is it that quick to blow the doors off a chipped 951 at high speed?

That Z just beat my friends this weekend who have track m3's and they are very good drivers. He's definately putting out some hp. To be in the class he's in he has more than chips and exhaust work. I have chips, headers and 3" exhaust with a lt weight clutch and flyweel, all being novicely contolled by me.. so wherever I'm at he's is probably +100 hp.

It depends on how well developed your up grades are. There is always potential, and vehicles really don't persay go obsolete. It's not about revolution boys and girls, it's about evolution. One of the things is understanding that most modern cars have very extensive sophisticated management systems, mind you of course with in there own required operating spec.
Beyond that you guys need to understand that the available tuning software and firms capable of providing tuning services for Subaru's and Evolutions is simply vaster and there is a lot more developement and market base. So in short their intial potential for expanding the pre existing factory architecture is cheaper and more up to date. The 370Z is very sophisticated and in terms of driver to vehicle interface is more friendly combined with well developed suspension and stopping power. The biggest thing you guys are going to face is really the complete replacement of a system and or how far you can expand the existing architecture. And or how deticated you are going to be in such a project. The one thing that nothing can change is technical driving skill, and against cars with driving aids out the kazoo the ( testicular ego of man has drastically increased from that of past decades where men ended up in a wall, tree, or up in the tree's if you went out like a champ. ) You need to early on decide, am I going with a road car or circuit car. You need to decide also what kind of enviorments you will encounter, most the very fast and powerful machines have years of developement. Also understand that there is also going to be those that will run their engines or set ups at the brink of distruction. The tuning potential of the 944 is not to be over-looked. Cheers- In short, you 944 boys and girls have some work cut out. Start with a complete overhualing of the fuel system to meet the ( target operating spectrum ) and go with proper engine-management. Next Emphasize on the induction system and don't just replace one or two parts, I mean a complete system designed to operate with selected turbo, you need to achieve maximum boost and keep it consistant thru your operation zone but also under various throttle conditions with excellent recovery. This however should be balenced with the mechanical end of the engine and well we're getting into more then I have time to write. Last but not least, most over looked is the transmission, ratios, clutch and fly wheel, shaft, and rear end specificly set to your requirements. Don't for get to leave a little room for drafting about the last 500-800rpm's. Cheers, good luck!
