Turbo Blankets

Hi All,

Has anyone used a turbo blanket? PTP Turbo Blankets has a product that "seems" great but I am wondering if any of you have had any experiences with these?

PTP Turbo Blankets

Seems like if you combined one of those with a coated header/crossover-pipe/ down pipe you could really decrease engine bay temps?

Thoughts?

TIA

I have bought one myself, haven't tried it yet though as I am currently rebuilding my engine. Am gonna put wrapping on the manifolds and x-over also. reducing underhood temps is a good thing. Also it gives the added effect of hotter exhaust gas, which promotes spoolup/reduces lag.

I wrapped a portion of my exhaust... the point at which it passes close to oil pan gasket. I cooked the crap out of my last gasket, although it was probably time to change it anyway. So I just wanted to keep a little of the heat away from it.

Jaxturbo,

I took my oil pan off this past week. The gasket looked new @ 109K mi. Do you have all the heat shields installed? Pax side under the headers and drivers side under the turbo oil line?

I have had a blanket on for 3+ years. I believe it was a PTP t3/t4 model. Need to remove intake to get access to install. I also wrapped my crossover pipe at the same time. Engine bay still gets incredibly hot. Not sure the blanket made any noticeable difference in underhood temps.

Yup, you pretty much have to take off the intake-manifold to get to the turbine. You're 80% there once you've got the charge-pipe off. Leave the throttle-body and fuel-rail attached to intake-manifold. Flip it over towards the passenger side, tie to cruise-control bracket and you've got full access to turbo.
