Clutch slave bleed possible failure?
I bled my slave today and had trouble getting fluid to push through. I had the motive pressure bleeder to 18lbs. Still nothing. I then pumped the clutch peddle a half stroke with my hand and heard a pop and it started bleeding. Now I can drive it but the peddle just returns to about half travel ? Question is. Did I mess up my master cylinder or something else? The fluid was very dark in the 993. Thanks

Make sure reservoir is completely full and try bleeding some more, probably still have air in line.

Yes, bleed again, and keep the reservoir full. Do not push your luck with the fluid level. There is a separator wall in the reservoir between the front and back of the tank and it is much easier to get air in the clutch line (back of the tank) then the brake line (front of the tank). Take smaller refill steps and refill much more often then you would for a brake bleed/flush.

Yes. I had air in the line. Never had so much trouble bleeding. Thought I’d broke something. Thanks guys.

I have speed bleeders on my calipers and on the slave cylinder. I also use the vacuum bleeder from Harbor Freight. No mess no problems especially with the clutch, turn the bleed valve, hook up vac bleeder and push pedal a few times and close valve...done, Vac bleeder catches all that comes out
Probably works without speed bleeders but the Motive seems to be the gold standard here,, |

Glad to read you stuck with it and got it sorted out

Speed Bleeders
Where did you get the speed bleeders? How do they work? Are they a pressure relief valve that only open when when they are unscrewed and the system is pressurized? Thanks
|
Got the speed bleeders on ebAY and you are correct about their function
About clutch pedal you may want to try the MPL slave cylinder and the Stainless braided slave hose (The latter available from FVD) |
The stainless brake hose is a great idea. We use them on brakes, why not. Is the MPL slave a direct bolt in? Does it have enough travel? Have you run one on your car? Thanks.
|
MPL is a direct bolt on but you need to use the plunger and boot from your original slave
I have one (for a few years now) and made things lighter. I also replaced the slave line at the same time so I cant attribute everything to the MPL as my old line was a it on the way out |
Awesome, thanks for the great information. I am looking forward to getting this project started.

Rennlist is the most active 993 forum I follow, lots of clutch mods detailed there, including the MLP details.

Thanks for the tip. I will spend more time there, somehow I got locked in to Pelican.
