964 Front bumper

Good day everyone. I am looking at a
1992 964. The lower intake air vent of the front
bumper, i.e...under the plate area, looks
to be collapsed. You have the opening with
the center bar. The top space is always
even but the lower space is collapsed.
Is that front hitting the bottom of the bumper
and then that area gets pushed up to the
center bar, i.e...collapsing that lower space??
I see it on a lot of the 964s
Is there a way to fix that scenario?
Thanks to all and I think my explanation
above may be some what elusive!
Tom

Thanks.
When I had looked up bumper smile it was
all about the "rubber" piece that fits
between the hood and the bumper. Really
nothing to do with the collapse of
the lower air ntake itself.
On another 964 I had I kind of "wedged"
two rubber pieces in between the lower
and middle piece, from behind,
to spread some space.
Just checking if the cause is due to lower part
of bumper being pushed up and if bumper
taken off
would you be able to fix it?
Tom

Tom, did you look at link above? I used it to remove the smile from my 964. The lower front fascia is supported by a metal flange that becomes bent when one hits a parking curb, etc. It's pretty easy to fix, just takes a screwdriver, pliers, some trial and error to get it just right.

964 Bumper Smile

Thanks JSny!!
When I first looked at the link Kreeshp had sent I couldn't open it for some reason and searched
and was coming up with the rubber piece.
Went back to link, thanks to your post, and YES it appeared!!!
THANKS to Kreeshp for the link in the first place.
I suffered with that bumper on a 1992 I had many years ago!!!
Thanks to you BOTH and the Pelican community!!! Tom

There is an aluminum extrusion that is riveted to the very bottom of the cover with 4 rivets. it fits over the pinch weld flange where the trunk floor is welded to the front latch panel. if the flange is bent up it will "frown " the lower portion of the bumper. If the center is "frowning" carefully inspect the black plastic grille for cracks and be sure it is snapped to the back side of the front bumper cover. If the grille is cracked at its mounting points it will frown.

What extrusion are you talking about? There is a steel piece painted black that screws and holds the lower covers in place otherwise the frown is shaped by the tub which has a weld seem that does get pushed up if hit.

I shot a video yesterday while working on mine: https://youtu.be/x6IvhXyafZ4

Pretty straightforward and it makes a nice difference!

^^^ nice video I found it was a bit easier to use an adjustable plier but either works.
