964 rear deck lid on 911?

Will a 964 rear deck lid fit on a ‘87 Carrera without any modification?

No. While the exterior dimensions of the lids are the same, the hinges on a G-body are "narrower" (mounted closer together) than those on a 964. They're about 34" apart on the 964, and about 31" apart on my 930.
Plus you'd also have to figure out the wiring for the automatic tail on thr 964, and the "brain" that controls it.

Thanks Noah.
There's an old thread on this topic and one member even made (and still makes as best I can tell) modified hinges.
I am now leaning towards a duck tail or simply keeping the turbo whale tail.

Thanks again.

Richard

I am pretty sure the hinges changed to accommodate the motorized wing of the 964. I don't believe the mounting points did so I believe you can use the 964 hinges with the lid on an early car possibly with some spacers. The earlier G body lid was used on the 964 turbo and RSA using adapters to make them work with the 964 hinges. I will see if I can locate my G body hinge i have and see if it mounts up to my 964.

Thanks very much for all responses.

Frankly, at this point I'm starting to lean towards the "duck tail" for an RS/outlaw look.

What do you guys think?

Ducks look great. Maybe not as aero beneficial as the tea tray, but a Duck on a wide body is sexy as hell.
