Advice on a dent - 96 cab
Hey folks - walked to my car yesterday and found a lovely dent in the top of the rear quarter panel. No idea where this came from.
After going through all of the curse words in my vocabulary, I drove to a nearby dealer to ask about a fix... (No Porsche dealers in the market, went to a MB, Jag, Volvo shop) They suggested trying a dent pull that shouldn't mess up the paint. No guarantees it will work and it could pull the paint with it... (basically they stick industrial glue sticks to the dent and pull). They went on to say that it would be impossible to match the factory paint if something goes wrong or if they would take a "body shop" approach to pulling, patching and painting. any suggestions? Anyone had a similar situation? Thanks, it's a solid and original cab with less than 51k miles, so I want to pick the right path here... ![]()

Try this:
Call some of the High-End or exotic car dealerships in your area and ask them who they use for Paintless dent repair. They undoubtedly have someone in town, possibly several. Contact them and send them Hi-res pics of your dent. On my computer your pics don't show up well so maybe take different ones so they give you an accurate estimate. Good Luck! |

I think I'd go the PDR route first, too. Wouldn't cost more than a couple hundred bucks, I'd imagine.

Peter is correct, find a PDR pro
I had similar dents removed by a Pro...cant tell they were there and it was all done from the outside with no paint problems. Ferd (my PDR guy and former Bassist for Mellencamp) said if paint is original he had no worries ..

DONT LET ANYONE PAINT THAT BEAUTY!!!
I'm in the biz (33years) but not your area. Sorry that happened but good news is PDR will TOTALLY make that guy dissapear. (I agree the pictures might not be conveying if the paint is cracked or not. If its cracked then the pdr pros will be able to fix dent but not the fractured paint). I doubt they charge you much at all (unless you get the "Porsche, must be a wealthy guy", tax. Ugh). Try to get a pro with a couple seasons (hail) experience under their belt. If they need tail light out, you might remove it yourself to save R&I cost (but 2 screws and a couple marker light turns can't cost much). If your paint is indeed fractured, I still wouldnt refinish it. I'd rather a 2 inch paint crack than a refinished qtr panel over my original oem paint. I've seen too many jacked high end vehicles rolling around and know it's a common occurence. Keep us posted. |

PDR is great. Dings pop out easy. The good ones are artisans. I would check yelp and your local PCA. I got lucky where a local PCA guy setup a door ding party at a local shop is how learned about this art!
