95 993 factory radio questions...
I have a 1995 993 that was originally optioned with the CR-1 am/fm/cassette; the M490 Hi-Fi system; and the trunk mounted CDC-2 CD changer. When I purchased the car, the CR-1 had been replaced with an inexpensive KENWOOD (the car's original CR-1 was not included). I want to return the car's audio system as original. The installer of the KENWOOD made a bit of a mess in cutting the plug in connector at the radio end for the amplifier leaving me a cable with 6 individual wires and the copper sheath beneath the vinyl cable cover. If I can find the plug in end, I guess with some careful neuro-surgery I can splice things together. I have the factory 993 manuals including wiring diagrams, but it does not breakdown these individual wires so I can determine their purpose. The colors in this 6 wire amplifier cable are white, green, blue, red, yellow and brown). If anyone can tell me the purpose or each I'd appreciate it. I have an amplifier plug from a CR-1 that was in my parts bin, but it only has 5 wires...not a blue one like in my car, so I'm guessing I can't use that one and need to source a 6 wire harness? The car's CD Changer harness was also tortured (for reasons I don't understand) meaning a four inch section of the outside sheath was sliced exposing each of its 7 wires having had a tiny bit of insulation removed but the wires (other than the green wire which was cut) were otherwise intact. Since the CD changer could not be used with the KENWOOD, I found this cable hanging down in the passenger side foot well. I made the necessary repairs to it but like the amplifier cable, I'm curious what is the purpose of its inner wires which are white, yellow, black, red, orange, blue and green. Ideally, I would like to source the correct CR-1 that has compatible wiring connectors for my HI-FI equiped system and an intact amplier cable and the CD changer cable if anyone might have these bits and pieces. Thank you.
