964 Diagnostic Tool
 

After ten years of sitting my 964 is alive again, but has a few faults I'd like to deal with over the winter.

What is the consensus on diagnostic tools now? I've searched the usual; places, most of the threads are really old...

It look like I still ahve these options:

- find some free software (maybe scantool?) and a diagnostic port adapter and then just use my PC, (not sure this is viable)

- buy Durametric's cable

- Bergville's T-OBD adapter with scantool software

- Jennisken's UDT999

It looks like all of these are still available, I'm not sure what I need. Right now I have an ABS error pretty regularly, and I definitely want to bleed the diff locks, which I think, removes the first item listed as an option.

Anybody able to enlighten me? I'm leaning towards Durametric right now...

I have a udt999, happy with it although my car is C2. Lead times were very long during Covid, you may want to check.

I bought a Durametric', didn't cover engine, gave it away.

I bought a KTS 300 Bosch Hammer Kit while I was Touring Europe. 1100 Euros, well worth it. The biggest problem with the Hammer is the batteries, finally found a set in Norway.

I used to take it to Autocross and hook up the 964's, they all got better times. if someone wants to hook up Hammer to their car, message me and bring it over, it'll cost you a cup of coffee.

The KTS300 is the best. Just did a search, no 300's, lots of other numbered kits, do they even work on the 964?

I also use the Bosch Hammer, if you can buy one or borrow one I’d go that route. Every 964 I work on it comes in handy

That would be nice, but I'm in Canada, not many people own Hammers here.

Expensive but they always seem to have one. I have a 300 I use and it is old school but does the job. My 300 came with diagnostics for every euro car made those days.

I am very happy with my UDT999. I ordered it early in 2021 and it shipped about a week after I placed the order. I have a C4 and it works for bleeding the differential locks.

Maybe I need to invest some money in the right tool....more Porsche/Bosch, less Harbor Freight. :(
