964 Oil Leak Question

I am looking at a 89 964 C4 at a local OPC. They currently have the motor out re-sealing it due to a leak in the "case halves".

Is this bad? Is this type of leak common? Is a engine re-seal the correct fix?

Any concerns about a OPC performing this type of repair?

Thanks for your help

-Ryan

reseal the case halves? That would require the entire motor to be torn apart and the case split unless they mean the replacement of a seal at the case halves. Find out exactly how they are resealing it. It sounds like they are just slapping on some epoxy or something that will only be a tempt fix.

If it's out, have them replace the seal and O ring at the power steering pump drive off the right camshaft. Almost guaranteed that it is the source of some oil at this age. Valve cover and chain covers should be done too. Case halves may weep but there are other areas that could appear to be this location. O rings at the cylinder base, oil senders, rear seal, etc....Takes some detective work.
