993 a/c question...
 

What does it mean when my a/c stops blowing intermittently, usually toward the beginning of use. It blows ice cold and very powerfully, makes no funny noises. But sometimes, long before anything could freeze over, it coughs or stumbles a bit. Then it comes back to life, full blast. Do I need an engine rebuild?:(

you need a 2.4 transplant.

Here's an idea: why not swap in the 3.2 and see if that has any effect. If not, then you can probably assume you don't need the rebuild :)
