What does a a Varioram sound like?

I've seen several mentions of "you should be able to hear when the V-ram kicks in", yada yada. I don't notice any special sounds, other than the normal flat 6 symphony in the rear. My car has a LOT of pep. Could I possibly be missing some HP and not have a functioning V-ram? How to tell?

It kicks in at around 5000 rpm. You should notice a change in pitch of the engine especially if you have the motorsound option - it gets a little louder and kinda like a turbine.

I agree with John..the sounds gets a little more intense and you can feel the car push a littler harder.

Travelling behind my friends 993 I can always tell when it hits that spot, I can hear the change in note. If I can hear it in another car some metres away, then I would think you should be able to hear it in the actual car.

Hmmm. I go over 5000 rpms every single time I take my car out and I don't think I notice any dramatic change in tone. How should I test to see if the V-ram is working?

My motorsound/varioram symphony always gets drowned out by the wonderful sound from the RSR mufflers. If you don't have them, get them.

as Addison says, the sound is more noticeable with the stock mufflers. On my car, with the motorsound airbox lid and stock mufflers, the change in sound at 5000+ rpm was more noticeable than with the fabspeed mufflers installed. My RSR mufflers arrived yesterday, and i'll be trying them out in the next week or two. max

Max, you will notice the RSR's are more subtle than the Fabspeed but once you get into them, it is so sweet sounding. Like I mentioned on Rennlist, it is the way our 993's should have come from the factory. Have fun!

I had the Fabspeed open lid airbox on my car when I bought it and it got super loud at 5k rpms and above. But I put the stock lid back on there, as it was just too loud. But still, am I missing my Varioram? Would I feel any lack of power?

Can you post or send a pic of the RSR mufflers?
